Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Louisville Zoo honor dedicated first responders with inaugural First Responders Days

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Louisville Zoo are proud to announce the Zoo’s inaugural First Responders Weekend from Sept. 11 – 13. This special event is dedicated to recognizing and thanking the men and women who serve and protect our community every day.

During the weekend event, eligible first responders from the region, including firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, dispatchers, military, and other public safety professionals will receive complimentary Zoo admission as a token of appreciation for their service and sacrifice. Up to five accompanying guests will receive 50 percent off regular Zoo admission. A full list of eligible professions is available at Louisvillezoo.org/frd.

First responders play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of Louisville residents and visitors. Whether responding to emergencies, providing lifesaving care, or helping community members through times of crisis, these dedicated professionals work tirelessly to make our community stronger and safer.

"Every day, our first responders answer the call to serve others, often putting themselves in harm's way to protect our community," said Mayor Greenberg. "Their dedication, courage, and commitment make Louisville a safer place to live, work, and raise a family. First Responders Weekend is a meaningful way to show our appreciation and thank these heroes for everything they do for our city."

Throughout the weekend, first responders and their families will have the opportunity to enjoy the Zoo's award-winning exhibits, engage with wildlife, and spend quality time together in a relaxing setting.

"We are honored to welcome the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to serving our community," said Louisville Zoo Director Dan Maloney. "From firefighters and police officers to paramedics and dispatchers, first responders are there for us during some of our most challenging moments. We are excited to give back to these everyday heroes, recognize their service, and provide them with an opportunity to enjoy time with their families while experiencing all the Louisville Zoo has to offer."

All tickets for this event will be available at the Zoo’s admission window. First responders will need to present one of the following: government-issued badge, employee identification card, military identification card, or military retirement identification or documentation.

Zoo Hours

The Zoo is open daily year-round. Now through September 20, 2026, hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with guests exiting by 6 p.m. Beginning September 21, 2026 – March 19, 2027, hours will be 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with guest exiting by 5 p.m. The Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
