DETAILS:
Actors Theatre of Louisville opens its 2026–27 season tonight with Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. Performances run September 9–27 in the Pamela Brown Auditorium.
The case begins with the death of Sir Charles Baskerville, which raises questions about a centuries-old curse said to haunt the Baskerville family. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson travel to the moors of Devonshire as the newest heir, Sir Henry Baskerville, arrives at the family estate.
In Ludwig’s adaptation, five actors move among 40 roles as Holmes and Watson follow a web of clues, suspects, disguises, and misdirection. The production retains the central mystery and characters of Doyle’s story while presenting it through the structure of a fast-paced comedy.
“It was essential to me to open our 26–27 season at Actors Theatre with a big, bold comedy that balances familiarity and innovation,” said Amelia Acosta Powell, Artistic Director of Actors Theatre of Louisville. “This dynamic adaptation of the classic Sherlock Holmes mystery perfectly walks that line, staying true to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s genius thriller while having a lot of fun with the theatrical form. I’m so grateful to partner with this top-notch cast that blends local talent with national artists and our designers who have really leaned into the magic.”
