Nonprofit moves to 3,500 square-foot space in Louisville landmark
Louisville, Ky. — Blessings in a Backpack, the only national organization solely dedicated to feeding kids on the weekend, is moving its Louisville, Kentucky, office to a 3,500-square-foot space in the Wright Tower, previously known as the Kaden Tower, located at 6100 Dutchmans Lane. The nonprofit will occupy a space on the building’s sixth floor effective Monday, July 1. Along with secure access, Blessings in a Backpack’s location in the Louisville landmark also includes private offices and a conference room.
“Our needs have outgrown the space we had at our Shelbyville Road location for the past 13 years,” said Nikki Grizzle, Chief Marketing Officer of Blessings in a Backpack. “With employees who are part of our Louisville Chapter and national Blessings in a Backpack team members, the Wright Tower provides us with the space to continue innovating and helps us expand our efforts to serve children across the United States. We’re excited to begin this new journey.”
Blessings in a Backpack was founded in Louisville in 2005 by Missy Hammerstrom, who began the mission by packing backpacks with food for local schools in her garage. The organization moved to 4121 Shelbyville Road in 2011 and has since expanded its reach to serve children in need across 46 states and Washington, D.C. This latest move supports the continued growth and impact of the nonprofit’s work.
"This new location not only meets our need for more space, but it’s also cost-effective, saving us $20,000 annually in rent, which will be redirected toward our mission of feeding more children nationwide,” continued Grizzle. “This would not have been possible without the incredible moving assistance from our partners at Cardinal Movers.”
Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry. The nonprofit organization has seven chapters and more than 1,200 programs nationwide. During the 2022–2023 school year, Blessings in a Backpack provided over 3.3 million hunger-free weekends for children nationwide.
