The Whirling Tiger Announces New Location Coming in 2027

Popular Louisville live music venue will relocate to 1028 Story Ave., with expanded hours, a beer garden and more room to grow

Owner Mark Evans has announced plans to relocate the popular Louisville neighborhood bar and entertainment destination from its current home at 1335 Story Ave. to a larger space at 1028 Story Ave., the former home of Producers Veterinary Supply Co. The move is expected to take place in late winter or early spring 2027.

The new location, situated next to the former High Horse, will give The Whirling Tiger significantly more room to expand its hours, programming and overall guest experience. Among the additions planned for the new space is a beer garden, creating a new outdoor gathering space for guests and events.

"The Whirling Tiger has grown into something that is bigger than we initially imagined, and we're excited to have a space that allows us to build on that," said Evans. "We've had great neighbors and have loved being part of our current location, but it is a more residential setting, and we've experienced some challenges with noise. The new location gives us the opportunity to continue growing in a setting that is better suited for what The Whirling Tiger has become."

The Whirling Tiger will remain open at 1335 Story Ave. until the new space opens, and Evans and his team have big plans for the upcoming holiday season. Guests can expect the bar's full slate of Halloween and Christmas celebrations before the move. "We're not going anywhere just yet," Evans said. "We have a lot planned for Halloween and Christmas, and we're excited to make this last season at our current location a great one. Then we'll turn our attention to what's next."

The new Whirling Tiger is part of continued investment and development along Story Avenue and Butchertown. Andy Blieden, the developer behind the new build at 1028 Story Ave., sees The Whirling Tiger's relocation as another positive step for the neighborhood.

"Story Avenue continues to evolve into one of Louisville's most exciting and dynamic areas, and we're thrilled to have The Whirling Tiger as part of that continued growth," said Blieden. "Mark has built a place that people genuinely enjoy and want to come back to, and we're excited to help create a new home that gives him the space to take that vision even further."

While the move is still several months away, The Whirling Tiger's current location will continue to be a hub for live music, DJs, trivia and other programming throughout the fall and holiday season. The venue's upcoming concert calendar includes J Roddy Walston on September 19, JMSN on September 22, MILLIONAIRE$ on October 2, Nicole Atkins on October 10, Robert Ellis on October 14, Green Jelly on October 22, Pink Talking Fish on October 25, Riff Raff on October 31, The Dream Eaters on November 6, tUnE-yArDs on November 7 and Same As It Ever Was on December 5.

The Whirling Tiger also will continue its weekly free programming, including Left Field Trivia on Mondays, Honky Talkin with Tyler Lance Walker Gill on Tuesdays, Live Jazz on Wednesdays, Late Night DJs on Thursdays, DJ See Tai on Fridays and Wannadance DJs on Saturdays.

The coffee shop at The Whirling Tiger will close this Saturday, September 19, allowing Evans and his team to begin focusing their attention and resources on the venue and the upcoming move.
