Cool Mountain Theatre presents Mean Girls — The Musical, July 23–29 at NoCo Arts Center in Jeffersonville.

Press Release

Cool Mountain Theatre, resident studio artists at NoCo Arts Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana, will present Mean Girls — The Musical July 23–26, 2026. Tickets are on sale at coolmountaintheatre.com.

Based on Tina Fey's beloved screenplay — itself inspired by Rosalind Wiseman's landmark book Queen Bees and Wannabes — Mean Girls the musical features a book by Fey and a score by Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin that critics and audiences have praised for being as sharp, funny, and surprisingly moving as the story it tells. This is the full-length, staged production of one of the most culturally resonant musicals of the last decade.

Fetch on the outside. Fearless on the inside. There may be a lot of pink, but don’t let the pink distract from the seriousness of the message. Mean Girls is funny because the ridiculousness rings true. This show takes on the whole machinery of cliques, gossip, and social warfare and turns it up until it's absurd — and somewhere in that absurdity, we realize we are laughing at something we recognize. That's not an accident. Tina Fey’s goal in writing this was to show that if we can laugh about how ridiculous bullying behavior is, maybe we can finally stop it.

Besides the fantastic music and script full of belly laughs, what makes this story worth gathering for is where it ends up. It is not a story about one person winning — it is a story about people who move past social expectations to be real with one another, and with themselves. Cool Mountain Theatre is committed to telling the story with both the hilarity and the depth that it deserves.

SPAVA Preshow Talks Bring the Message Home

Cool Mountain Theatre will host two preshow talks on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26 at 6:30 p.m., led by Dr. Doris Mann of SPAVA, the Society for the Prevention of Aggressiveness and Violence Against Adolescents.

Tina Fey wrote Mean Girls as a way to address girl-on-girl aggression, and Cool Mountain Theatre believes producing this show comes with a responsibility to take a look at the real life aggression that inspired it. Dr. Mann will discuss how that aggression shows up in real life and highlight SPAVA's work in area schools, where its curriculum helps students learn to recognize harmful behavior — and gives them practical ways to stop it.

Admission to the talks is complimentary with a show ticket. Space is limited, reserve your spot at: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/mean-girls-preshow-talk-with-spava

Quote from Cool Mountain Theatre

"Mean Girls is not fluff — and we are not treating it as such. The music is exceptionally well written, the humor is sharp enough to make you laugh and wince at the same time, and the story is in-your-face about high school politics and social bullying. Mean girls have existed for millennia. They show up in every social structure — schools, workplaces, families — anywhere there is a hierarchy that can be exploited. What I love about this show is that it doesn't end with a winner defeating the loser. It ends with people willing to finally be real. We hope that the absurdity of it all will make audiences laugh — and inspire them to be brave enough to, as our character Damian would say, just STOP (with the dumb behavior)." —

Suzanne Allen, Artistic Director, Cool Mountain Theatre

Perfecting the fast-paced choreographies and executing high-energy Broadway vocals require incredible theatrical talent. Adapting such iconic cinematic teen comedies for a live musical stage are definitely not Easy Games, but this upcoming production at the NoCo Arts Center promises to be an absolute treat for local theatergoers!
