Press Release: Urban Forestry, TreesLouisville, and Louisville Grows

Louisville Parks and Recreation’s Division of Urban Forestry, TreesLouisville, and Louisville Grows are teaming up for a Community-Wide Planting Day on Saturday, November 14, to plant 181 new trees throughout the Jacobs Neighborhood! Help us make this community-wide planting possible!

We’re calling on 100+ volunteers to join us on Saturday, November 14, to plant trees along rights-of-way, in residential yards, and on large privately owned properties throughout the neighborhood. Whether you're an experienced tree planter or new to volunteering, your help is needed to expand the neighborhood’s tree canopy. Sign up today and be part of creating a greener, healthier Jacobs community! With only a 25% tree canopy coverage the Jacobs neighborhood can benefit from an expanded tree canopy to help improve local quality of life and provide environmental, social, and economic benefits to the community. Over time, these trees will help filter air pollution, reduce stormwater runoff, provide shade, enhance the neighborhood’s beauty, and create a greener, healthier community for residents. This is the 5th year these organizations have been collaborating to create a greener and healthier neighborhood in one day! Volunteers will also be provided with lunch thanks to the sponsorship of the Metro Council’s District 3.

WHEN: Saturday, November 14, 2026. 10:45 am - 1:00 pm

WHERE: Jacob Elementary School : 3701 E Wheatmore Dr Louisville, KY 40215

WHO: Louisville Parks and Recreation, Trees Louisville, and Louisville Grows.

WHY: Planting trees creates a healthier environment, contributes to our well-being, and improves the quality of life for everyone in our community. Louisville’s declining tree canopy has the greatest impact on neighborhoods that are already vulnerable to rising heat. By planting and protecting trees, we can build a more resilient, livable city for all residents. Every tree planted today helps grow a greener, cooler, and healthier Louisville for tomorrow.
