Middle row: Colin Ratchford, Lee Lewis, Stephen Merrick, Tyler Beckman, Amar Sejdic, Campbell Morris. Front row: Mason Grabowski, Andy Romero and Jacob Holehan.
A goal from Brian Romero midway through the first half was enough to give host Male a 1-0 victory over Collins in the Bulldog Cup final last Saturday.
The junior midfielder was in the right place at the right time when a Campbell Morris shot from twelve yards rebounded off the hands of Collins goalkeeper Brandon Hughes and landed at his feet. Romero deposited the ball into the net for the eventual game winner.
“It was a pretty hard shot and I anticipated that he might not hold it,” said Romero.
The win was the Bulldogs’ fifth straight and moved them to 11-4-2 on the season. The Titans fell to 7-3-2.

Runners from St. Xavier and Trinity kicked off rivalry week with a dual meet last Saturday at Seneca Park. The Tigers and Rocks are ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in Class 3-A by www.KYtrackXC.com.
A steady drizzle and cool temperatures proved to be ideal conditions for St. X junior Connor Sheryak, who took first place and set a new personal record of 15:38 as the Tigers prevailed 23-32.
“I took it out pretty slow for the first mile (5:10),” said Sheryak. “The second mile (4:55) I tried to pick it up a lot and then by the third mile it was just me and Sam Meredith (of Trinity) gutting it out.”
Meredith, a senior, finished second at 15:43 and also set a new PR.
Rounding out the top five were senior Zack Beavin (3rd, 15:52) and junior Sam Lewis (4th, 15:57) of St. X and sophomore Nick Eckert (5th, 16:12) of Trinity. Beavin, Lewis and Eckert set new PRs as well.
