UofL’s Charlie Strong vs. UK’s Joker Phillips.
In their last two head-to-head meetings before the Governor’s Cup Classic at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, the two head football coaches will make joint appearances in Louisville, July 25 and 26.
The Governor’s Cup Classic, presented by Kroger, will kick off with an Honorees Reception at the Muhammad Ali Center at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 25. This year’s honorees will include a Louisvillian, Harry Jones, who starred along with his late twin brother, Larry, under Paul “Bear” Bryant at UK, and Sonny Collins, who arguably is the finest running back in Wildcat history.
UofL’s honorees are Browning Nagle and Dwayne Woodruff.
Reception at the Ali Center tickets are $100 each or $150 per couple. The tickets are available online at daretocare.org. Included are complimentary tours of the Ali Center.
Governor Steve Beshear and the two head coaches will speak.
The next day will kick off with breakfast and golf at 7 a.m. at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville.
Lunch and appearances by Gov. Beshear and both coaches at a press conference will precede a cocktail party, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Randy Whitt is in charge of the pre-game events. He can be reached at 502.552.6951 or email@example.com.
