Joker’s Final Game

The Joker Phillips Era is over for the University of Kentucky football team.

The Wildcats bowed out with a 37-17 loss at Tennessee Saturday.

Phillips was fired two weeks ago and chose to coach the Wildcats one more time.

His successor? Your guess is as good as any.

A lot of names have been mentioned, but there has been no comment from UK Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart.

Win or lose, there are always tears from seniors on their final game of the season. The Big Blue locker-room was especially wet-eyed. Phillips said that he threatened the Wildcats, told them that he’d “come back to haunt them” if they don’t keep their grades up, impress the new coach with their work ethic and graduate.

Max Smith, the senior center, told Phillips “that I love him. He’s meant everything to me. Brought me in five years ago and stayed around to stick it out with me.”
