Let’s talk a little baseball and maybe that will warm us up a little.

The University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville are ranked in the top 25 of America’s college baseball teams.

UK is ranked 15th by USA Today’s coaching panel. UofL is tied with Virginia for 25th.

The Wildcats have the roughest schedule with  three Southeastern Conference teams ranked in the top five. Arkansas is No. 1, LSU No. 3, South Carolina No. 5, Vanderbilt No. 8, Florida No. 13, Mississippi State tied with San Diego for 18th and Texas A&M 24th.

This is Louisville’s final season in the Big East Conference and the Cardinals are the only Big East team in the top 25, but next year promises to be a rough one when UofL begins Atlantic Coast Conference play. ACC teams in this year’s top 25 are No. 4 North Carolina, No. 9 Florida State, No. 11 N.C. State, No. 21 Georgia Tech and Virgina, tied with UofL for 25th.

The Wildcats and Cardinals open their seasons Feb. 15, UK playing UNC-Asheville at Spartanburg, S.C., and UofL playing Indiana at Dunedin, Fla.

UK returns most of the players on last year’s team that posted a 45-18 record, best in history. Trinity High product Corey Littrell, 9-2 last year, is UK’s top pitcher.

Louisville, 41-22 last year, has a fire-balling pitcher, Chad Green, who was 5-0 last season.

Murray State’s Rob McDonald is the only Kentucky member of USA Today’s voting board of coaches.
