More timely, how well can star quarterback Teddy Bridgewater play with an injured wrist on his non-throwing arm at Rutgers Thursday night at Piscataway, N.J.?
It’s more than just another Big East Conference game. The winner gets to play with the big boys of college football in the Bowl Championship Series. The winner will win hundreds of thousands of dollars for its school.
Talk about pressure!
Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. game will be televised on ESPN.
Meanwhile, the basketball Cardinals didn’t escape the injury bug. Starting center Gorgui Dieng suffered a broken bone (the scaphoid) in his left wrist in last week’s win over Missouri. He was scheduled for surgery Tuesday by Dr. Luis Scheker of the Kleinert Kutz Hand Care Center in Louisville. He is expected to miss four to six weeks.
The 6-foot-11 Dieng missed the Duke game and the Blue Devils’ massive front line.
Without its shot-blocker, the Cardinals suffered their first loss to the Blue Devils 76-71 in the Battle for Atlantis championship game.
There well could be a rematch down the road in the NCAA Tournament between the two master coaches, Louisville’s Rick Pitino and Duke’s Coach K.
The next game for the Cards comes at 1 p.m. Saturday against Illinois State at the KFC Yum! center.
