This article needs to be BLASTED around the WORLD… This sentence PUNCHED ME IN THE GUT!! “These are the same women who stay in relationships they don’t belong in, who don’t follow their dreams, who withdraw from the kind of life they want to live.”

I want to THANK YOU for forwarding this article to me and the many others on your list! It was very refreshing to read and see myself and some of the people that have come and gone in my life that gave me this very experience.

I have learned to recognize these statements and events and won’t allow someone to treat me in this fashion. By learning to practice this it has kept me from getting into toxic relationships or going further into a toxic relationship ie… spending years in or getting married to someone that will eventually bring you down so far that you can’t escape emotionally.

Recognizing these signals is important to a person’s self-worth and self-esteem. No one has the right to treat another person in this fashion. Although the “gaslighter” has issues of their own and that is part of the reason they do this to others…. to make themselves feel better, more powerful, dominant and controlling.

So…. thank you again for bringing this issue to the surface. It’s inspiring!

I have to agree with you. It is tough world and society does not help carry on the stereotype. Being a single working mom, not only do we have a responsibily to speak up to protect but to teach our sons and daughters. In ny situation, I was not only beaten down emotional by my husband, he continually insisted to see therapists which is great if both parties are willing to accept responsibility and willing to change. I have come to believe. Believe it or not, usually the one screaming “she’s crazy” screams loud enough that others believe what he says. Being taught to turn the other cheek makes it difficult to blow the whistle on the person then guess what the victim stays a victim or walks away leaving the door open for the next victim. I don’t only agree I applaud you for writing about it.
