Montessori School of Louisville (MSL) will hold the fourth annual Butterfly Benefit auction, in tribute to the shared values of Dr. Maria Montessori at The Olmsted on Friday, Feb. 22, in Louisville.
Proceeds from the Butterfly Benefit will support MSL and provide a significant source of funds for the 2013-2014 school year to ensure the continuation of Montessori education offerings in the Metro Louisville community. In keeping with Montessori’s community ideals and extension of prepared learning environments, MSL has chosen for proceeds from the Butterfly Benefit to support a natural outdoor classroom (learn more at www.naturalplaygrounds.com) and edible playground, working closely with Whole Foods.
Giving to the earth is powerful for students. Whether helping to plant a tree, studying an insect, or preparing a garden for winter, students become connected to the earth. That connection empowers them through a sense of achievement and wonder. In turn, it motivates them to build on a foundation of sustainability and compassion and contribute meaningfully through a sense of community.
Live auction items at the benefit will include a trip to Mexico, “be a conductor for a day” with a real engine train ride, as well as beautiful stone carvings created by Nelstone Stones and chiseled out by MSL students. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Butterfly Benefit will directly enrich the lives of our students.
