WOW!!! What a whirlwind of great fashion!
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York was bigger and better than ever! There were over 90 shows at Lincoln Center, not just in the tents, but on the Plaza and in several presentation galleries. And then there were just as many shows being presented in other parts of the city. We were jetting through the City, from Harlem to Lincoln Center, to Limelight, to Milk Studios, to the Piers, to The Standard on the southern shore. It was a wonderful mix of so many concepts, for men as well as women.
Attending the shows with me were Louisville-based Lucy and Patty Sweetall; Kasey Tyring; Audrey Curry; Madison Arnett; Sally White from Atlanta; Darci Thompson from New York, who is the chief designer for International Intimates which creates Victoria Secret; Renee Rolphe; Isaac Mizrahi and more.
Spring and Summer 2013 will include these trends: Colors were white, ivory, nude, cornflower to cobalt and navy, powdery soft pastels, silver and opalescent metallics, wisteria to iris, palm green, coral and the primary shades of emerald, red, yellow and royal.
Silhouettes that looked new and fresh included knee length and below; hip-covering boy shorts as well as Jamaican and A-line shorts; circle skirts; caftans; shifts and trapeze dresses; and palazzo pants.
Detailing included crystal and Fortuny pleating; ruffles; jewel collars and shoulder covers; silk flowers; peplums; and origami folds.
Fabrics were primarily see-through and gossamer: organza, organdy and bazar; eyelet; guippure; re-embroidered and laser-cut lace; pique; raffia; leather; tulle; linen; silk shantung; and brocade.
Patterns included the classics: checks, stripes, color blocking with curves, cosmic and galactic printing.
The shows that stood out to me were Son Jung Wan, Michael Kors, Carmen Marc Valvo, Fotini, Zang Toi and Falguni & Shane Peacock.
Two vendors that made a big hit at Lincoln Center’s lobby attractions with innovative twists were Tresemme and Maybelline. Tresemme has a new computer app that allows the user to photograph themselves, and then select different hair colors, styles and cuts to put on their photo to see how it will look. Just go to www.Tresemme.com. Maybelline had a vending machine, just like for sodas, except you could choose the new “Tenacious Teal Color Tattoo” for eyes, “Plum Paradise Nail Lacquer” or “Red Revolution Lip Color.”
Celebrities spotted were many – Ryan Lochte, Brooke Shields, Donald Trump, Lil’ Kim, Dance Moms and Real Housewives of New York, Kirstie Alley, Stanley Tucci, Robert Verdi, Michael Douglas, Susan Sarandon, Paris Hilton, Anna Wintour, Ivana Trump, Paula Abdul, Vanessa Williams and many more.
