Brian Brohm is back and he plans to tackle the Derby party season with a fete of his own.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback will co-host “Down the Stretch,” a Derby Eve bash benefiting Best Buddies Kentucky, on May 6 at ZirMed Gateway Tower, 838 W. Market St., along with his former University of Louisville teammates Eric Wood, who is a Buffalo Bill, and Breno Giacomini, who plays for the Seattle Seahawks.
“We’ve all been a part of the Derby scene and been to plenty of Derby parties, and one of the biggest things we’ve seen is that we don’t have a place for people who only want to spend a little more than they would spend going out on the weekend,” Brohm said. “Our party is something that will give you the style, the elegance and the feel that is representative of the Kentucky Derby without hurting your pocketbook.”
The evening will begin with cocktails and appetizers followed by an auction, after which a DJ will spin and dancing will commence. Proceeds will benefit Best Buddies Kentucky, which Brohm adopted after attending an event for the organization in 2010 with his brother, Greg Brohm, who is on the charity’s board . “A lot of people still don’t know about (Best Buddies),” Brian Brohm said. “We’re hoping our event will help with that.”
So who’s on the VIP guest list? “We’re bringing in a lot of the Buffalo Bills guys, some Green Bay Packers and some former Louisville players,” Brohm said.
You can also count on former University of Kentucky players, said Eric Weining, one of the party organizers, as well as a few celebrity surprises. “It’s Derby. You never know what to expect,” he said.
In between planning his Derby party, Brohm has stayed busy working out and awaiting the end of the NFL Lockout. “I’m just staying ready for next season,” he said.
