A Night Like No Other

| June 15, 2011

Best Dressed 2010.We have no intention of rushing away the summer, but let’s be honest: There’s at least one reason to look forward to the end of prolonged happy hours, days spent lounging at the pool, long walks with the dogs and beach vacations. That’s right, the last Saturday in August is The Voice-Tribune’s Best Dressed of Louisville Presented by Churchill Downs.

And this year will certainly not disappoint you.

It might seem trite that for the majority of the summer details surrounding the event will be kept hush-hush, but we promise we’re only thinking of you when we build the anticipation. Think back to some of last year’s surprises: Does Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson’s dramatic interpretation of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” ring a bell? Or how about over-the-top models suspended from the ceiling enhancing the already chi-chi ambiance?

Best Dressed 2010.And the anticipation doesn’t just apply to the night-of details. For the past few weeks we have been revealing nominees who will strut their stuff come on Aug. 27 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown.

Among those we’ve named: Joey Wagner of Prime Lounge and Lynda Lambert of 102.3 The MAX.

“Best Dressed is the best event – outside of the Kentucky Derby – in the whole city of Louisville. Being nominated is a good honor,” Wagner said. “I’m excited.”

Lambert is too. “First of all, it is an absolute honor to be nominated, and I am so humbled to be a part of that group of people. And,” she added, “I now have realized that I can never, ever, ever go to the grocery store again with some sort of makeup and at least a decent outfit.”

While there is much that goes into making Best Dressed an end-of-the summer spectacle, it also brings awareness to worthy charities. For the second year, Best Dressed proceeds benefit Dress for Success Louisville. This nonprofit organization helps women re-enter the workforce by providing them with resources such as business attire, interview preparation and skills to become self-sufficient women in the community.

Best Dressed 2010.Best Dressed is not only about honoring people for their style, it is also about acknowledging people in our community willing to help a great cause along the way. The unique blend of extraordinary energy and diverse talent among our committed community is what makes Best Dressed a must-attend event.
