Fusion Salon and Spa marks third anniversary

| October 20, 2011

Fusion Salon and Spa.Let others celebrate Halloween; for Melanie French, this October is the time to enjoy the fact that her business, Fusion Salon and Spa has completed its third successful year in Westport Village. A graduate of the old Roy’s of Louisville Beauty Academy who has “always loved the beauty industry,” she has devoted the past 11 years to gaining the expertise to care not only for her customers’ hair, but for their skin as well.

“When I was at Roy’s, the state granted licenses for hair styling, but not for caring for the skin – aesthetics, it’s called,” she said. “When licensing for aesthetics became available, I went through all of the training to earn it, and so my career has focused on both of those important aspects of beauty.”

During her early years, French worked in the Bardstown Road area. In October 2008, she opened her own salon in Westport Village, a few doors away from her present location.

“We were there for two years, but grew so quickly that we needed more space. We have been here, in this corner spot, for six months now,” she said. “Westport Village gives us great exposure because there are so many shops and restaurants nearby. And the Watterson Expressway exit has made it so convenient for people.”

French’s husband, builder Matt French of Provident Homes, did the build-out on both locations. Hair styling takes place on the ground floor, while the mezzanine level is reserved for skin care consultations and treatments such as chemical peels.

“When I began providing skin care to my customers, I started with basic facials, massage and makeup. But I found that a lot of women wanted even better results, without having to go somewhere for surgery,” she said. “That’s why we purchased a broad-band laser that gives wonderful skin-tightening, without downtime or surgery.”

Fusion Salon and Spa.The salon offers skin care products from top brands such as Dermesse and Jan Marini. French is particularly pleased to carry Eufora, a line of pharmaceutical-grade, organic aloe vera gel-based (as opposed to water-based) products for hair care.

Fusion’s services are provided in an atmosphere that is contemporary and calming, thanks to a sleek color palette of tan, brown and black, with silver accents.

“This isn’t a fussy-looking salon. We like people to walk in and feel cozy, as if they could spend the whole day here and not feel rushed,” she said. “At the same time, we like to keep on the cutting edge. We stay trained in the latest trends, to keep our clients moving ahead. Everyone wants glowing, youthful skin and clean, healthy hair. No matter how we differ in other ways, that’s something we all have in common.”

Fusion Salon and Spa (1301 Herr Lane, Suite 150) is open Tuesday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; other times by appointment. For information, visit www.louisvillefusionsalonandspa.com or call 502.429.9476.
