Every dieter knows the frustration of waiting for this too solid flesh to melt.

But Dr. Kamlesh Dave, a family practice physician who did his residency at the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine, offers a solution at his First Stop Weight Loss Aesthetic Center (908 Dupont Road).

“There is a weight-management issue that engulfs us in America. In my family practice, patients tell me that they diet and exercise, but still don’t reach their goals,” he said. “We decided to give a unique kind of try, where people get momentum immediately and can say, ‘I did something, and got results.’ ”

First Stop Weight Loss adjoins Dave’s (pronounced Dah-vee) family practice offices and the First Stop Urgent Care Center that he opened in July 2010, six years after he opened his First Stop Urgent Care Center in LaGrange (he now has additional centers at 927 E. Broadway and in Madison, Ind.).

Dave researched Zerona, the first non-invasive device cleared by the FDA for full body contouring, and learned that there is no pain, no scarring and no down time for recovery. The laser makes a small pore in the walls of fat cells; the fat is released into the lymphatic system and gradually excreted. In the process, the skin is tightened. Fat cells aren’t destroyed – they just get their pudgy pockets picked.

“After six sessions in a two-week period, the client has lost at least 3 inches – possibly as much as 10 – in total, from belly, hips, thighs and perhaps other areas. And there may be a loss of several pounds,” Dave said. “The important thing is that people see immediate results, and now have the motivation to go on with diet and exercise. Being able to fit into favorite clothes right away creates a positive outlook that makes a lot of difference.”

During the procedure, clients lie on their backs for 20 minutes, and on their fronts for another 20, while lasers in the downward-curving arms of the device shine on specific areas.

“It’s very relaxing; I played games on my cell phone the whole time. Some people read or watch TV,” said Amanda Taylor, an X-ray technician and medical assistant at First Stop Urgent Care. “After six sessions, I lost 2 inches around my waist, 3 around my mid-abdomen, and 2 around my hips, in time for bathing suit season.”

After each session, clients stand on a vibrating machine for 10 minutes, to help fat work its way out through the tiny pores in the cell walls.

The California-based company that developed Zerona reports that its devices have been used on 20,000 people. Six treatments at First Stop Weight Loss Aesthetic Center cost $975, although Dave occasionally offers discounts. In Cincinnati, he noted, the series runs $1,100; and in California, the price soars to $3,000.

“It definitely was worth it. The fat cells just empty out,” said Betty Linton, an account executive at The Voice-Tribune. “I lost 13 inches and about 10 pounds. I’m thrilled with the results. It’s remarkable.”
