Jeff Jarboe likes for people to chuckle when they see the winged toilet that symbolizes his company’s “heavenly services.” It’s a small way to keep a big name – Jarboe’s Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, Electric, Kitchen & Bath Design & Remodeling – easy for Louisvillians to remember, even though the business is based in Buckner.

That knack for creative problem-solving has served him well. A quarter-century ago, he ran his fledgling company from his Volkswagen. The back seat was pulled out to make room for plumbing fittings, and parts for repairs were carried under the hood.

“You do what you have to do, when you start a business,” he said. “Since the underside of the car was flat, I strapped pipes from bumper to bumper. It worked for a few years – then we started to grow.”

To his plumbing work, he soon added heating and cooling. When his daughter, Lindsay Jarboe Hudgins, was about 11, she started helping with filing in the office, and has been the office manager/project manager since 2007. That’s when Jarboe’s began kitchen and bathroom remodeling, making good use of her degree in interior architecture from the University of Louisville. Two years ago, the company added electrical work to its list of services.

“We like being in Buckner, but we work in about a 30-mile range, from Louisville and Bullitt County out to Carrollton,” Lindsay said. “We do a lot of remodeling projects in the Goshen and Prospect areas, and we recently did one in St. James Court. I’m doing my first steam shower remodel, in the Simpsonville area. It has a sealed-off shower room – all tile, no drywall. A remote control turns the steam shower on and off. There is even optional aromatherapy for it.”

Plumbing remains a major focus for the company, and Jeff keeps his technicians current on the latest technology.

“The market is ever-changing, and energy conservation is more important than ever. ‘Tankless’ water heaters are in demand, and heating and air conditioning are becoming more efficient every time you turn around,” he said. “I’ve studied the use of solar energy, which will be rising rapidly in demand because of higher fuel costs. And we are certified to install geothermal systems that pull heat out of the ground. That’s especially popular in neighborhoods that don’t have utilities.”

Jarboe'sJarboe’s clients appreciate getting cash back for referrals to friends, and no one refuses a tote bag containing hand-sanitizer spray, a jar opener or other small thank-you gifts. But it’s the customer service that really keeps people calling.

“No one can stay in business without taking care of their customers. We’ll do whatever it takes to make them happy,” Jeff said. “When we leave, we want them to feel that they were well taken care of.”
