Heine Brothers’ Grand Opening
Heine Brothers’ Coffee is expanding its presence in Louisville with the opening of its newest location in St. Matthews on Nov. 28. In addition to its new shop, Heine Brothers’ is also teaming up with the Center for Women and Families for the “Care in a Cup” holiday initiative at the Blankenbaker Parkway location on Nov. 29.
Located at 4305 Shelbyville Road in St. Matthews, the newest Heine Brothers’ shop will celebrate its grand opening on Nov. 28 with “52 for 52,” giving away free coffee each week of 2013 to the first 52 customers. The new location will also celebrate opening day by giving customers 53 through 150 a $5 gift card if they register their card during their opening day visit. The new St. Matthews shop is open Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The 2,000 square-foot shop has a drive-through window and seats approximately 50 people. Before it officially opens for business, the new St. Matthews Heine Brothers’ location only will celebrate Black Friday by offering medium-sized black coffee for $1 all day, beginning at 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 23.
Just after Thanksgiving, the Blankenbaker Parkway Heine Brothers’ shop will kick off the holiday season by partnering with the Center for Women and Families for the new “Care in a Cup” program. On Nov. 29, Heine Brothers’ at 805 Blankenbaker Parkway will give a free cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate to all guests who donate at least $1 to “Care in a Cup.” The Blankenbaker Parkway location will donate all funds raised through “Care in a Cup” that day to purchase holiday dinners at the Center for Women and Families. Annual Tech Day Awards
ConnectKentucky honored individuals and organizations using broadband in innovative ways at its 2012 Tech Day, held Nov. 13 at The George and Ellen Rieveschl Digitorium in Griffin Hall at Northern Kentucky University. The sixth annual Tech Day was an opportunity to better understand and promote the benefits of broadband technology in government, schools, businesses, communities and homes, as well as hear from experts on the latest technology trends. As part of Tech Day, an awards presentation recognized businesses, students, educational institutions and government agencies that are making a difference in advancing broadband technologies in the Commonwealth.

Medical Director For WaterStep
Dr. Bill Smock, Police Surgeon for the Louisville Metro Police Department and Medical Director for The Institute of Clinical Forensic Medicine and Nursing, has accepted the position as Medical Director for WaterStep, a local organization that works to save lives at risk from waterborne illness around the world. In his role as Medical Director, Dr. Smock will work to connect WaterStep with others in the medical community who could benefit from the tools and training that the organization offers. Dr. Smock will leverage his experience and relationships to build awareness and support of the organization’s work to fight the global water crisis, which is responsible for the death of more than 3.5 million people each year. Dr. Bill Smock graduated from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky in 1981 and then obtained a Master’s degree in Anatomy from the University of Louisville, graduating from UofL’s School of Medicine in 1990. New Tire Discounters Locations
Tire Discounters, the region’s largest of tires and automotive services, announced on Oct. 29 that they have opened two new locations that will serve Louisville area customers. The first is located on State Street in New Albany, Ind. The second location opened at 12901 Taylorsville Road in Jeffersontown, Ky. The opening of the Louisville area locations will increase the total expansion in 2012 to 14 additional stores, bringing the nation’s 10th largest independent tire retailer to a total of 79 locations in the Midwest region. Both new locations will feature eight service bays and 10 employees. In addition to meeting customer needs for tires, Tire Discounters locations also offer other products and services such as wheels, shocks and struts, brakes and automotive repair. The stores will be open to serve customers Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
