Frederick “Chip” Hancock, senior vice president of private banking with Republic Bank, has been honored as one of this year’s recipients of the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor a Boy Scout Council can bestow upon its volunteers for extraordinary service to youth. The Silver Beaver Award is given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication and many years of service. The National Court of Honor approves these Scouters who have given so much of their time, talent and treasure to the Boys Scouts of America program.
Chip Hancock joined Republic Bank in May of 1986 as an assistant banking officer and was promoted to vice president in 1994, moving into banking center management. In 1995, Chip was promoted to senior vice president and in 2010 became senior vice president/senior private banking officer.
“We are extremely proud of Chip’s accomplishments both at Republic Bank and in the community and feel that this recognition by the Boys Scouts of America for his dedication and years of service is well deserved,” stated Republic Bank Chairman and CEO Steve Trager. A new game for the iPad called Kodable, created by Louisvillians Jon Mattingly and Grechen Huebner, is available in the iPad App Store. In Kodable, kids meet the Fuzz family, who have crash-landed on the planet Smeeborg and need help navigating the lighted Technomazes. Through playing the exciting game, kids aged five to seven can learn logic and problem-solving skills, as well as basic programming concepts like conditional statements, loops and functions.
Kodable is currently piloting in a Louisville school and will have a full curriculum developed by May. The first set of thirty levels is called Smeeborg and is free on iTunes. In Smeeborg, kids learn the basic coding skills of sequencing, conditionals and loops. The second set of thirty levels is available for $1.99. It’s called Function Junction and adds functions to those skills. The third set of levels, still in development, will be called Bugs Below and will pit the Fuzzes against subterranean buggy villains that they will either need to squash or fix.
