Galt House Wedding Consultant

The Galt House Hotel introduced Courtney Kiefer on Jan. 22 as its new wedding consultant. Ms. Kiefer will work one-on-one with brides to assist them in choosing the right space for the size, budget, vision and experience for their special day. Top Performing Bank

For the second consecutive year, Republic Bancorp has been recognized as the best performing bank in the U.S. based on financial performance and level of capital. In the first quarter 2013 edition of Bank Director Magazine, Republic Bancorp was rated number one based on a combined ranking on two financial metrics: core return on tangible common equity (ROTCE) and the ratio of average tangible common equity (TCE) to tangible assets. Data was collected by SNL Financial and Sandler O’Neill + Partners from all banks and thrifts that trade publicly on the NYSE, NASDAQ or NYSE Amex and represents the average for the eight quarters ending June 30, 2012.

With a ratio of 14 percent during the two years ending in June of last year, Republic had almost double the median capital ratio of all banks and thrifts during the same period. A high level of capital also allows Republic to react quickly to opportunities when they arise, whether it’s a potential acquisition or a new product that meets a need in the market. Down Syndrome of Louisville Campus

Through the generosity of a 3-year grant from the Ogle Foundation, Down Syndrome of Louisville has opened its new Southern Indiana Campus, located in a newly renovated space in the Goodwill-Bridgepointe facility. A ribbon cutting and VIP Grand opening of the facility took place on Feb. 1 at the Down Syndrome Lifelong Learning Center, Indiana Campus, 1939 Applegate Lane, Clarksville, Ind.

The educational space includes a training kitchen, social space and dedicated classrooms for programming across the lifespan for individuals with Down Syndrome. The Ogle Foundation grant allowed for the merger and expansion of Down Syndrome of Louisville and Down Syndrome Support Association of Southern Indiana in Southern Indiana. KentuckyOne Headquarters

After months of reviewing locations in Kentucky and Southern Indiana, KentuckyOne Health officials announced on Jan. 31 that Louisville has been selected as the headquarters location for KentuckyOne Health. The corporate offices will be located at 100 E. Liberty St. in the Jewish Hospital Medical Plaza building, in downtown Louisville.

Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare in Louisville and Saint Joseph Health System in Lexington merged on Jan. 1, 2012, to form KentuckyOne Health, and recently partnered with University of Louisville Hospital and James Graham Brown Cancer Center. KentuckyOne is the largest health system in Kentucky with more than 200 locations and more than 3,100 licensed beds across the Commonwealth. Plans for the headquarters include two floors with several offices, cubicles and a number of conference rooms. Renovations are expected to be completed by December of this year.

While the corporate headquarters will be in Louisville, KentuckyOne Health is a statewide organization. Additional corporate leadership and support offices will remain located throughout the Commonwealth, including Lexington. Economic Development Incentives

Three companies were approved for economic development incentives at a Jan. 31 meeting of the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority in Frankfort, Ky. The projects would create 183 new jobs, $9 million in new annual payroll and $53.9 million in new investment. The companies are R.A.M.M. Technologies, LLC; eBay Inc. and Subsidiaries; and KentuckyOne Health.

R.A.M.M. Technologies, LLC is a locally owned manufacturer of medical equipment and supplies that has developed and engineered a revolutionary product called PillGuard, a prescription drug monitoring and dispensing device that will support the health care industry by reducing the risks associated with prescribing contolled substances. R.A.M.M. Technologies is prepared to begin manufacturing PillGuard and is also considering opening its headquarters in Louisville. Within the first two years of operation, the company projects a total investment of $3.4 million in building materials and capital equipment. The company would create 20 new jobs with a new payroll of $ 2.6 million. R.A.M.M. Technologies, LLC was approved for up to $200,000 in KBI incentives for up to 10 years.

On behalf of its subsidiary GSI, a logistics provider serving online customers, eBay Inc. is planning to expand its presence in the Louisville area to develop additional warehouse/distribution space. It is estimated that this expansion project would increase eBay and its subsidiaries’ footprint by as much as 270,000 square feet. eBay currently employs approximately 540 people in the area. The expansion project would represent an investment of $45 million in building materials and capital equipment. It would create 153 new jobs and nearly $5.2 million in new annual payroll. eBay Inc. was approved for up to $1.5 million in KBI incentives for up to 10 years.

KentuckyOne Health was formed in early 2012 as the result of a merger between the former Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s Healthcare and St. Joseph Health System. KentuckyOne Health is an integrated comprehensive health system, a single organization with many facilities, services and providers. KentuckyOne Health includes hospitals, clinics, specialty institutions, home health agencies, satellite primary care centers and physician groups with nearly 200 locations combined and a medical staff of nearly 2,500 physicians across the Commonwealth. KentuckyOne Health has announced plans to locate its Kentucky headquarters in downtown Louisville, adding 10 new, full-time jobs, representing $1.3 million in new annual payroll, and investing more than $5.5 million in capital improvements. KentuckyOne Health was approved for up to $240,000 in KBI incentives for up to 10 years.

UofL and StageOne Partner

A new partnership between the University of Louisville’s Department of Theatre Arts and StageOne Family Theatre will bring university-produced plays to downtown Louisville theaters and StageOne staff members to the classroom.

“We have been producing plays in area schools and other venues for 38 years with our Repertory Company student cast so it’s exciting to take their production to new audiences downtown,” said theater chair Rinda Frye. “Working with JCPS teachers, we’ve performed before more than 140,000 students. Now we can also share the stories with parents and young audiences in a new setting.”

The UofL-StageOne partners are also working on the development of a Creative Drama class for college students and area teachers who want to explore the role of theater in K-12 classrooms. The class would be taught by Talleri McRae, associate education director at StageOne. The first production of the partnership will be a Zimbabwe folktale, “Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters,” which teaches the values of respect for elders, generosity, humility and kindness within the context of West African spiritual traditions. UofL professor Deana Thomas, who heads the African American Theatre Program, will direct the family-oriented play.

The public performance of the play will be 2 p.m. on Feb. 17, at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts’ Bomhard Theatre. Two additional performances for school audiences will be at 10 a.m. on both Feb. 18 and 19. Tickets for the Feb. 17 public performance are $15 for all ages. WAVE 3 Live Mobile Broadcasting

There is now a way to watch live local newscasts on your phone or tablet. WAVE 3 News just added this feature to its hugely successful mobile app. The WAVE 3 mobile news app receives nearly 4 million page views each month. Now, the station has broke technological ground this week by offering all 40 hours of its local newscasts, plus breaking news and weather coverage, as live streaming video on the app.

WAVE 3 News, which celebrates its 65th anniversary this year, adds this to a long list as Kentucky’s first television station. It was also the first station to broadcast the Kentucky Derby live, the first local station to broadcast in color, and the first to track storms live with a local meteorologist. Now, as the first to stream all newscasts live on mobile, WAVE 3 News can provide unprecedented coverage of local news for Kentucky, Indiana and anyone in the world.

The WAVE 3 mobile app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play market. The live streaming feature is currently available inside the app on devices such as iPhones, iPads and the latest versions of Android phones. WAVE 3 News’ parent company Raycom Media is launching this feature on all its local news apps in the coming months. Raycom Media owns and/or provides services for 52 television stations
across the country.

WDRB/WMYO-TV Expansion

Bill Lamb, President and General Manager of WDRB and WMYO-TV in Louisville, Ky., has announced that the stations plan a major physical expansion of their Muhammad Ali Boulevard studio and office complex, to begin in March. The expansion will add over 11,000 square feet to the existing building at the corner of Seventh and Muhammad Ali and is expected to be completed by January of 2014. The building originally opened in June of 1980.

“This expansion has been made necessary by the incredible growth our stations have experienced in the past several years,” said Lamb. “Since the so-called ‘Great Recession’ began in 2009, we’ve actually added 25 employees to our News and Sales staffs. This move will not only provide space for the added personnel, but will also greatly enhance our production capabilities by adding a second studio and control room.”

Plans call for both levels of the building to be expanded west to the Seventh Street sidewalk and south into what is now landscaped space behind the existing structure.

“When this building opened almost 33 years ago, WDRB had fewer than 40 employees,” said Lamb. “Now, we have more than 160 working in virtually the same space that existed then. This will give us the breathing room we’ve needed for a long time and provide our employees with what I believe will be the finest television facility in the market. And as an added bonus, it will allow us to remain part of Louisville’s vibrant downtown scene instead of simply relocating.

“While almost all strategic decisions for WDRB and WMYO are made at the local level, which is a major advantage in and of itself,” Lamb said, “a major project like this needed corporate approval. And we certainly got the necessary encouragement from our owners.”

Dealer of the Year Nominee

Dick Swope represented the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association at the TIME Dealer Of The Year Award ceremony in Orlando, Fla., on Friday, Feb. 8. Mr. Swope was one of 57 nominees for the national service-based award. In October, our community learned about the nomination of Dick Swope, president and CEO of Sam Swope Auto Group, LLC. In response to his nomination, Swope said, “I’m thrilled to accept the nomination on behalf of our entire organization, we constantly strive to support our community. It is an honor to be recognized for our charitable support. We do what we can and it helps people’s lives. That’s the best award.”

Dealer of the Year was awarded to Michael Alford of Marine Chevrolet and Cadillac of Jacksonville, N.C.

A second-generation dealer, Swope began his career at the Ford Motor Company as a product development financial analyst after earning a BS and an MBA from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., graduating in 1973. In 1977, he joined the business started by his father, Bill Swope, and his uncle, Sam Swope, in Louisville, Ky. An ardent supporter of the American Red Cross, Swope has served on the board of directors of the Louisville area chapter since 2002 and as chairman since 2011. He was awarded the Clara Barton Award for Volunteer Service in 2009. When the Gulf region was without electricity after Hurricane Katrina, Swope fielded calls from the devastated region. “It was the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done outside of work,” he said. Swope is also active in youth causes, having received the Silver Beaver Award for Volunteer Service from the Lincoln Heritage Council Boy Scouts of America. Since 2007, he served as the chair of the Ken-Ducky Derby, an annual rubber duck race on the Ohio River that raises funds for Harbor House, Inc., a local organization that works with adults with mental and physical disabilities. Swope and his wife, Ann, have two sons and two grandchildren.

Ally will recognize dealer nominees and their community efforts by contributing $1,000 to each nominee’s charity of choice. Nominees will also be recognized on the recently launched website, www.AllyDealerHeroes.com, which highlights the philanthropic contributions and achievements of auto dealers across the U.S. The TIME Dealer of the Year award is one of the automobile industry’s most prestigious and highly coveted honors. Swope, 63, was chosen by Lee Searcy, president of the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association (KADA), to represent the KADA in the national competition. A panel of faculty members from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan will select one finalist from each of the four NADA regions and one national Dealer of the Year.
