A beautiful wedding for Neary and Gomez

Corinne Neary and KaMar Gomez were married Saturday, May 21, under a backyard tent with a backdrop of flowers floating on the pool at the Indian Hills home of her maternal grandmother, Anne Moselle Brown Payne, who recently celebrated her own 90th birthday.

The bride’s attendants were Jonathan DeBusk, of Boston, and Joy Swindell-Humphrey, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., both of them friends from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville. Corinne was accompanied down the aisle by her brother, Edward Neary, of Louisville.

The best men were William Tutt, of Providence, R.I., and Rob Quintillani, of San Francisco.

The couple wrote their own vows for the ceremony, which was officiated by Chip Donnelly, of Boston.

The groom’s paternal grandparents, Audrey and  John E. Gomez Sr.. of Syracuse, N.Y., and the bride’s paternal grandmother, Lorraine Neary, of Clarksville, Tenn., followed Anne M.B. Payne in representing the most experienced generation.

Also in the wedding party was the bride’s mother, Anne Tilford Payne, of Jacksonville, and her friend, Richard Levine, of Jacksonville, and the groom’s father and stepmother, KaMyal Gomez and Glenda Reese.

Other out-of-town relatives who traveled to Louisville for the event were the bride’s aunt Lorraine Neary, and from the groom’s side, aunt Deborah Glover, great-aunt Pearl Seals and aunt Constance Gregory.

Local family members joining the mostly out-of-town group were Edward Neary’s  mother Kaye Baker Fulton and her husband, Michael Fulton, of Louisville, Edward’s wife, Juliet, and the couple’s two young children, Michael and Marlo Corinne.

Most guests were the couple’s school, college and work friends, who flew in from up and down both coasts and stayed at Louisville’s Hampton Inn.

The bride wore a tea-length ivory silk dress embellished with silk magnolias and an embellished headband. The groom kept it classic in black suit and narrow daytime black tie. Her wedding band is a white gold antique band in the art deco style, which has joined a diamond engagement ring of similar provenance. He is now wearing a plain gold band.

The ceremony was held at the edge of a backyard tent, overlooking flowers floating on the pool.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a barbecue buffet, drinks and dancing on the patio, with DJ services provided by Jamey Williams of Portland, Ore.

Out-of-town guests were whisked away to their downtown hotel by a party bus not too far before the stroke of midnight.

Pre-wedding events included a Churchill Downs “day at the track” on Friday and a rehearsal dinner at Dragon King’s Daughter on Friday night. A post-wedding Sunday brunch at the Bristol Bar & Grille capped off the “official” events.

The bride and groom spent two post-wedding nights at The Seelbach Hilton Hotel and then headed back to their jobs, hers as senior librarian with the New York Public Library and his as manager at Brooklyn’s Smith and Vine Wine Co.
