Growing up in Louisville is quite possibly the greatest thing that could’ve ever happened to me. Now, as a senior at Kentucky Country Day School, I realize how truly blessed I have been to grow up in such an amazing city. From the Kentucky State Fair to Derby season, I’ve witnessed our community come together to celebrate the city and state that we love. Louisville has also given me the opportunity to meet so many people and make so many friends who will be a part of my life forever.

As we step into these last few weeks of May though, our lives become more hectic than ever between prom and graduation – and all the parties celebrating both events. Now in Louisville, we love to come together and socialize at events like these, but what really matters is… what to wear.

As cliché as it sounds, it’s completely the truth. We all do it all of the time without even realizing it. As soon as we see someone wearing a dress or outfit that we like or dislike, it spills out of our mouths before we even realize it. So as a current student, I am in fact, faced all of the time with the dilemma of what to wear. However, I have taken it upon myself this graduation season to find the most popular styles and designers that I, as well as my peers, have found to be complete show-stoppers this year.

As we all know, Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines are the “official” Derby wear, which some people like to continue on throughout the beginning of summer, like me. However, not everyone wants to be caught wearing the exact same Lilly dress, so here are my solutions. Lately, we’ve been noticing all of the new Shoshanna, Rebecca Taylor, and Milly Summer Collections. As expensive as they may be, any of the new patterns and colors off of their websites would leave everyone gawking at you at graduation festivities.

Of course, the brightest colors are very in right now and I have loved finding every neon piece of clothing I can get my hands on. I can honestly say there is no better place right now to find those brightest of hues than my own personal favorite, J. Crew. What could be better than every colored pair of shorts that you could ever imagine? That’s right, nothing.

Also going into these graduation festivities, we are all faced with the dilemma of what to give as graduation presents. As a parent, you really can’t go wrong getting your girls a new Lilly print wristlet, but there is something more out there that they are wanting: anything monogrammed.

As a graduating teenage girl myself, nothing brings me more joy than opening monogrammed presents. To me, anything that is monogrammed as a present makes me feel like my parents put a lot of time and effort into it, even if it was easy to do. But if my parents didn’t give it to me, it also makes me feel like I can call whoever it was a pretty good friend if they remember my middle name. Monogrammed bags, earrings, hats, bathing suits, and necklaces are the way to go. A few websites that can help you out are www.MarleyLilly.com, www.PreppyMonogrammedGifts.com, or www.ThePinkMonogram.com.

So don’t get caught up these next few weeks in the midst of everything and be left clueless as to what to wear and what to buy. As the summer gets closer and the graduations parties are in full swing, be sure to celebrate in style.
