As a graphic designer and photographer for The Voice-Tribune, Chris Humphreys spends a lot of his time working behind the scenes. That’s all changing quickly, though, as the 24-year-old has been asked to step forward into the spotlight and share his voice with his online blog, Weekly Favorite. I sat down with Chris to learn a little about his life, his work at The Voice and the interesting perspective he’ll be providing each week on the web.
What do you do at The Voice?
I’m a full-time designer and photographer. I try to make the paper look pretty.
How long have you been working there?
I started July 5, 2010, right in the middle of prepping for Best Dressed 2010, which was quite the experience.
Is design something you’ve always been interested in?
I started out focusing fully on photography. After my instructors in college told everyone that you make no money in photography, I decided to double up and major in design as well.
What was your reaction when you were told you’d be writing for The Voice?
I was excited. I tweet more than anyone I know, so to get the opportunity to type in more than 140 characters made my day.
What will you be blogging about?
My favorite thing of the week. Kind of a “Best Week Ever” except I’ll just be focusing on one topic. It’s a bit of a cop-out, but this way I won’t be limiting myself to any single subject.
What do you do outside of work?
I love to eat at local restaurants. We have some of the best food around, and it’s all within a few mile radius. I’ll take a Louisville original to a chain sit-down any day. But my main vice is watching entire TV series on Netflix from start to finish in a short amount of time. I managed to fit in over 100 episodes of “LOST” in just under two months.
Are you single?
When I’m not saving puppies from burning buildings or reading to the elderly, I am single and manage to date.
Would you like to be our dating and relating writer?
I’ve thought about it, but I would feel strange kissing and telling, especially in Louisville, where everyone knows everyone.
What would your alias be?
It wouldn’t make me anonymous if I told you.
How do you want the world to remember Chris Humphreys?
As a cool guy that made cool things and lived a cool life. It’s cool to be cool.

Ashley spends half her time writing stories at The Voice-Tribune office and half her time out on the town conducting interviews, while occasionally dressing in wild outfits to fully immerse herself in the experience (aka Princess Leia at Comic Con). Ashley is a huge UofL fan and loves the Yankees and the Boston Celtics (she is fully aware of the irony). She hopes to one day outshine Erin Andrews on ESPN and enjoys running, Bardstown Road/Fourth Street, Breaking Bad and reality TV (she’s not ashamed to admit that).
