Ready to Run
The Kentucky Derby generates an enormous amount of overtime within the local community. Local businesses have extended their normal work hours to accommodate shoppers. Restaurants have been booked for months. And lawns have begun to transform into green oases.
Louisvillians take great pride when hosting their guests for Derby. And there isn’t much time to rest because it becomes a mad rush to maneuver around town to all the different engagements we attend. It becomes survival of the fittest. Here are a few items that I can’t live without.
- Visine helps get the red out.
- Vineyard Vines is the official neckwear of the Kentucky Derby. Ties ($85), bow ties ($45) and women’s scarves ($98) can be purchased at Rodes, The Fashion Post and at Churchill Downs. Online you can find them at www.kentuckyderby.com.
- Tory Burch flip-flops ($45) from Rodes for Her, 4938 Brownsboro Road, 502.753.7633.
- Tide bleach stick is great for accidents.

Willy Wonka would envy. She’s a fervent high school soccer fan (go
Collegiate!) and has the raspy voice to prove it after game days.
