A Fashion Week for the ages

Special to The Voice-Tribune

Fashion Week in New York is a fashionista’s dream come true. With 98 fashion shows at Lincoln Center and another 60 or so fashion shows and fashion lounges in other parts of the city, could this week get any better?

Here were some of the outstanding trends I witnessed on the runway: jumpsuits, treated and coated fabrics, classic 1960s shapes, skinny pants, wide-leg pants, boy short and skinny belts.

I also loved the color combinations featured on the catwalk: neon shades – flamingo, citrine, orchid, azure, lime; black and white  dots, stripes and color blocks; mint green (for men too); orange, coral, melon; flesh, ivory, limestone, clay; rustic desert shades: amber, sienna, cinnabar, olive, impala, antelope.

Several of the shows I attended really stood out.

Michael Kors’ desert “Afriluxe” collection was captivating. It included djellabas, caftans, sarongs, ponchos, capes and oversized travel bags in skins and pelts.

Nanette LePore’s playful neons in classic shapes looked stunning and the shoes were great fun.

Anna Francesca’s total Club Clothes for men and women combined feathers, iridescent fabrics, netting and tulle. I also enjoyed Eva Minge’s classic “Hamptons Yachting.”

Pamela Roland’s luxurious red carpet gowns were absolutely elegant, and Zang Toi’s sumptuous fabrics in rich colors were extremely eye-catching.

With me in New York were Louisvillians Audrey Curry, Jaclyn Ragsdale, Courtney Ward, Courtney Buchignani, Kim Wrigley and Valerie Rouse.

We saw countless celebrities including Susan Sarandon, Austin Scarlett, Nigel Barker, Ms. J Alexander, Dwight Howard, Kirstie Alley, Jayne Mansfield’s daughter, Mariska Hargitay, Emma Roberts, Renee Zellweger and several of “The Real Housewives” of NYC and Atlanta.
