Kim Behrle & Ian Post

“I met a tall glass of water and he is probably going to be my husband,” said Kim Behrle to her mother after meeting Ian Post in July 2007.

During a business meeting for Southern Wine and Spirits, Ian first spotted Kim, who was giving a presentation in front of an entire group of men. Taking notice of her immediately, Ian asked Kim to be his date to the Bourbon Festival’s Bourbon Ball that year.

Soon after, Ian knew for certain that Kim was the one. On his 36th birthday, instead of unwrapping a present for himself, he decided to surprise Kim with a gift.

“It was May 22nd,” Kim said. “We were getting ready to go out to dinner to celebrate Ian’s 36th birthday and he called to me, ‘Honey, what’s up with Oskar? He has something funny on him.’”

Ian was referring to the couple’s gray poodle, Oskar, who had a small package tied around his neck.

“I come running out of the bathroom with curlers in my hair, worrying that something was wrong with him,” Kim said. “And there was a ring box tied to Oskar’s collar. Ian got down on one knee with the box and said all he wanted for his birthday was for me to make him the happiest man on earth by marrying him. It was cute… . Of course, I said yes!”
The two were married on Sept. 6, 2009, in a beautiful, outdoor ceremony. Since their marriage, Ian has continued to work for Southern Wine and Spirits as their district manager. Kim, on the other hand, started her own promotions company, Taste Marketing, which earned her the 2012 Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women.

Outside of work, Kim and Ian make sure to keep a healthy social life. They love to travel together and mix delicious cocktails while entertaining friends and family inside their home. Their favorite libation is their signature Manhattan, which they serve on any occasion from New Years Eve to the airing of the newest episode of “Mad Men.”

The pair certainly enjoys their time together, but they also value their time apart. “I think the separate spaces really also sums up our relationship,” Kim said. “As much as we love each other and wish to spend time together it’s also important for us to have some personal time. Ian loves his man cave, and of course, I can spend hours in my closet, hanging out, organizing, trying stuff on, or enjoying a bottle of bubbles with a friend.”

Their unique interests are reflected throughout their East End home, with each room demonstrating the couple’s elegant taste in design. The couple share the space with Ian’s 14-year-old daughter, Hannah, their two cats and Oskar.

Their approach to marriage may not be like every other couple’s, but it’s a union that’s worked perfectly for the duo who live by the motto: “Don’t sweat the small stuff.”

“Kim has always been easy to get along with,” Ian said. “From the very start she has been willing to go with the flow in my change of personalities (work to home)…Our relationship works because of the two people we are, not because we work at it. I sensed from our first meeting that there was something about this woman. Not long after that I decided that she was the woman I wanted to grow old with.”

“Keep it real,” Kim advised. “Kiss each other every day.”
“Give her personal time,” Ian said.

Don’ts

“Don’t have a reason to say ‘I’m sorry,’” Teresa said.
“Don’t hold a grudge (or forget to close the cabinet doors),” Ian added.

2 Parts Jim Beam Black
1 Part Sweet Vermouth
2 Dashes of Rhubarb Bitters
2 Dashes of Orange Bitters
