What is your fashion view?
I grew up with a grandmother who wore Chanel and kept her shoes in their boxes, a mother who made my hair clips to match my dress and an aunt who played banjo on her porch swing in comfy blue jeans. So my fashion sense is a mix of all three styles, which I like to call comfy-chic. I love dressing up and being girly, but there is nothing like the perfect pair of jeans with a soft t-shirt.
How do you describe your style?
I love calling my style comfy-chic. I never shop at the mall, so all of my clothes come from thrift stores or consignment shops. I go for pieces that make me feel like a lady, or exude fun and flirtiness. I love combining clothes from different eras. I might be a little obsessed with the 20s and the 50s (Hello, Speakeasy and Mad Men).
What are your favorite pieces?
I absolutely love hats and scarves! I have a wall in my room completely dedicated to my collection and I am thinking of expanding to another wall. My favorite hat, I actually embellished with feathers and flowers for Derby weekend.
Where is your favorite place to shop?
I only go to a few local shops that are such gems: Nitty Gritty, Urban Kitty, BJ’s Consignment, Regalo and, of course, Unique Thrift.
Who is your fashion icon, and why?
Sarah Jessica Parker, because I love some Sex and the City, but also because she can totally glam it up and yet also wear her shorty old school shorts with the piping down the side and a stripey tank top, and look great!
What else do you want people to know about you?
I am all about spending money with my neighbors. Being eco-friendly doesn’t just mean recyling; shopping local plays a big part in our economy. I bought all of my Derby dresses at consignment shops in Louisville, and instead of feeling stressed about the money I spent, I felt accomplished. Little changes in our shopping habits can make such a difference in our community.
