What is your fashion view?
Fashion, to me, is an expression of oneself and individual personality, whether it’s conscious or subconscious. I think everyone does this in one way or another.

How do you describe your style?
I like wearing clothing that is most often thought of as iconic American – that is classic and timeless with a tailored fit that always seems to stay in style. (I) keep it current by adding new accessories, like a new tie or a pair of vintage cuff links.

What are your favorite pieces?
My favorite pieces are my new tuxedo – it fits like a glove – and a pair of Wedgewood cuff links that I was recently gifted. Sometimes it’s the smallest of things that make you look and feel like a million bucks.

I also have handkerchiefs that my grandmother hand-monogrammed for me, that I always use for very important evenings.

Almost as important as any one piece of clothing is the fragrance I wear, Green Irish Tweed, by Creed. Originally designed for Cary Grant and as much a part of myself as my wallet or car keys, I seldom go a day without wearing it.

My very favorite piece, I have to say, is one that I will seldom, if ever, be seen wearing. It’s a beautiful vintage Burberry tweed wool cape that once belonged to my great uncle. Incredibly well made, it hangs on a valet in my closet in the “place of honor.” I confess, I have worn it a few times walking with the dogs through the woods at my place. I doubt capes for men will come back into fashion anytime soon, but if they do I’m ready.

Where is your favorite place to shop?
As with anyone whose occupation involves design, most of my time is spent searching for that perfect “thing” that will make an event distinctively its own, so when I shop for myself, it’s not usually for fun unless I’m traveling. When I do shop, I like to be able to walk into a store and find what I’m looking for very quickly.

I know I will always find what will look best on me, and what I like, at Brooks Brothers, Von Maur and, for very good things, Rhodes. I like the level of service, and the latter two are privately-owned family businesses, which makes all the difference.

Who is your fashion icon, and why?
I would have to say my fashion icon would be Karl Lagerfeld. His contribution to fashion is remarkable, and he has done an outstanding job at maintaining the original vision of Chanel, yet (he also keeps the design house) ever-fresh.

And Tom Ford – I love anything Tom Ford.
