What is your fashion view?
To me, fashion means everything. It’s a reflection of how I see myself and how I want the rest of the world to perceive me as well. As a young professional, I’m at a very interesting point in my life, so my fashion choices are no longer just about personal style, but instead they have become about finding a way to balance my personality with my lifestyle. Fashion is just like my mood. It can be inspired by anything, and can change day to day, because it’s completely my prerogative.
How do you describe your style?
I’ve always claimed that my style is tomboyish with a fashionista flare. I like pairing masculine basics with very feminine accessories or makeup. This mix fulfills my need for comfort. However, I am always adding a few extra surprises – much like my personality.
What are your favorite pieces?
I love a good ol’ white V-neck more than anything else. I can wear this on the weekend, to work and on my few nights out. I can also dress it up with a blazer and leggings or play it down with ripped jeans and some chucks. I think it’s my favorite wardrobe “must.” I also love a good pair of pumps, but what girl doesn’t?
Where is your favorite place to shop?
I love boutiques because I love supporting local businesses, and I also like having those unique pieces that make people ask, “Where did you get that?!” It is always nice to have something that other people don’t. I also like shopping online. I know this is a risk for a lot of women, including myself, but most sites are pretty good about returns. I love asos.com and topshop.com, because the closest stores are in Chicago.
Who is your fashion icon, and why?
Rihanna. She is fun and fearless, and doesn’t really care what people have to say about the way she dresses. She is always glammed up, but is also a bit rough around the edges. Her style is based on an internal instinct, because no matter where she is or what she’s wearing, she is always representing her personal style.
What trend do you think is most influential in fashion?
Social media. Working in digital marketing, I’m connected to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and blogs all day. Fashion icons no longer have to be celebrities, because social media has given every woman around the world the resource to be a fashion icon and expert. I get a lot of my inspiration from Instragram and Pinterest. Social media has put power back into the idea of expression in fashion, not just what the price tag says. We as women can all feel good about the clothes we wear, no matter what the price, and that is a beautiful thing.
