Many people seem to be fickle about New Year’s Eve. There are the travelers who dart out of town every year; the folks who stick around and wait until the last minute to make their plans; and then there are those who have no desire to go out, even if their favorite musician (mine would be Madonna) is playing around the corner.

I hope all who ventured out on Black Friday with the masses and stood in long lines in pursuit of the hottest gadgets or toys walked away unscathed with the deals they were searching for. Analyst concluded that sales were slightly higher this year and signs look good this holiday season. This is certainly something positive for the economy.

Friday is the official beginning of the holiday shopping season. The day after Thanksgiving is truly a de facto holiday in America: It is celebrated more regularly and with more passion than most of the traditional holidays.
