The Bridge Makes Me Happy

Biking on BridgeThis is an excellent opportunity for some good exercise.  While everyone is complaining about the obstacles the bridge shutdown is causing for them, take some time to think about how you can benefit from it or how good your life is in general.   People are always going to complain in life.  If you want to be happy you need to surround yourself with people that are happy and healthy.

I live in Louisville, my kids go to school in Sellersburg and I work in Louisville.  Sounds like a personal problem, I know.  So, two days a week I wake up extra early get the kids ready, drive to Sellersburg in traffic then attempt to return to Louisville for work.  Yes it’s an inconvenience but I look at it as some good time with the kids and some relaxation time to myself on the way to work.  I’ve had to make some adjustments to my work and fortunately I can.  So I’m not sure that many other people could have something too much more to complain about with the traffic than myself.  There’s nothing we can do about it, so accept it and acclimate.  Or you can react like most of the world and wonder why this happened to you and how unfair life is.  Or maybe you’re one of the lucky few that it doesn’t affect at all and that’s great.

Here’s what I’ve learned.  You have a choice to be happy or unhappy.  Yes, it’s completely up to you.  Everyone is given circumstances in life and it’s up to you to take advantage of them.  I enjoy seeing people cross the bridge either on bike or running while I’m sitting in traffic.  At least a couple times a week I now make it a point to add the bridge to my running route.  If for no other reason than hopefully setting a good example and getting some exercise, I enjoy people watching.  I can normally cross the bridge faster on foot than by car now.  It’s like the scene from Office Space where the old man using a walker, outpaces the guys sitting in traffic on their way to work.

It won’t be practical for everyone to walk or ride their bike across the bridge but if it is, then make it happen.  Choose to be happy and healthy by making the best out of this situation.

I was born and raised in Louisville along with my four sisters. I graduated from St. X in 98’and University of Louisville in 02’. I have two amazing kids that are much sweeter to life than I ever was.
Although, I didn’t really know what all went into it, I dreamed of owning a gym and knew that I wanted to help people out. I consider myself very lucky to be able to take advantage of the opportunities that have existed in my life. I received a degree in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Marketing at UL, both of which were very helpful in getting me where I am today.
I have 10 years experience as a Personal Trainer. I have nationally accredited certifications through NSCA-CSCS and ACE. In 2003 I met Cary Cox and he already had the same visions that I did. We didn’t want people sitting around reading magazines on machines. Our past experience from the big box gyms helped us realize we wanted something different. We were looking for real results in a private atmosphere where intimidation doesn’t exist. ProFormance Fitness has grown from the original facility three times. The latest addition added another 5000 sq/ft to keep up with demand. We are fortunate to have amazing trainers and lots of energetic clients.
