Keeping Up on Fitness

Kayak TripWho has been slacking on their latest fitness goals?  Well the odds are that most of us have.  Health and business are very similar.  Think back one, even two years.  How many businesses have evolved or improved?  Some that were around one or two years ago have gone out of business.  95% of the rest look the same and probably would be thrilled to have not lost any ground in that span.  Look at your friends, the odds are going to be very similar.  Most have stayed the same or slightly gotten worse every year.  You are better than that.  What have you done to improve your quality of life?

One of our most beloved clients, Cheryl Henson, who I wrote about before, has continued making excellent progress.  She is now 12 weeks in to her journey of a life transformation.  She has fought obesity and developed diabetes 14 years ago.  Once again, after going to the doctor last week she has continued to lower all of her numbers for the better.  She is seeing very consistent results which are key to long term success.  Another pill has been eliminated and the insulin has been lowered yet again.   Let me remind most that she started at 254 lbs. and her doctor told her that more than likely she would never reduce her insulin all that much.  Currently at 238 lbs, she has surpassed her doctor’s prediction by reducing her insulin to 50% from 12 weeks ago.  This is not by accident.  She works her butt off and the inches are disappearing.  Nothing comes easy and anything that does isn’t worth it.  This may not sound like a drastic change to some but the improvement on her quality of life can’t be measured.  As she progresses, more pills will go by the wayside that has been limiting her weight loss.  What are you doing?

As for myself, I just got back from a weekend of kayaking on the Ohio River.  My brother in law, Brad and I tandem kayaked from the Louisville Rowing Club to Brandenburg.  This was a 60 mile trip that we hadn’t planned much for but had all the necessary supplies from previous excursions.  We camped out along the shoreline and were picked up once we arrived in Brandenburg.  I don’t endorse this kind of trip without doing a lot of research first but the experiences along the way are amazing.  It was a brutal combination of love and hate.  As much as I love kayaking and Brad, 9 hours a day of constant paddling and 3 days of staring at the back of his head in our tandem can take its toll on a person.  This is my fitness.  No one has to go to that extreme but find something you enjoy and do it.  This is life.  We all have reasons that are hampering our improvements.  Figure out what they are and eliminate them.  What are you doing?

I was born and raised in Louisville along with my four sisters. I graduated from St. X in 98’and University of Louisville in 02’. I have two amazing kids that are much sweeter to life than I ever was.
Although, I didn’t really know what all went into it, I dreamed of owning a gym and knew that I wanted to help people out. I consider myself very lucky to be able to take advantage of the opportunities that have existed in my life. I received a degree in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Marketing at UL, both of which were very helpful in getting me where I am today.
I have 10 years experience as a Personal Trainer. I have nationally accredited certifications through NSCA-CSCS and ACE. In 2003 I met Cary Cox and he already had the same visions that I did. We didn’t want people sitting around reading magazines on machines. Our past experience from the big box gyms helped us realize we wanted something different. We were looking for real results in a private atmosphere where intimidation doesn’t exist. ProFormance Fitness has grown from the original facility three times. The latest addition added another 5000 sq/ft to keep up with demand. We are fortunate to have amazing trainers and lots of energetic clients.
