Do you ‘Dare to Care’

| November 1, 2011

thanksgivingThe holiday season is upon us.  The fact is this is the time of the year that most of us gain weight because we eat too much.  The eating is usually compounded with great camaraderie of friends and family gathering to celebrate the different occasions.  Unfortunately that’s not the case for everyone.  Dare to Care Food Bank was founded in 1971, when a stunned Louisville community was confronted with the horrifying news that right in their own city, on Thanksgiving Day, a nine year old boy had died of starvation.

There is an opportunity for everyone to enable kids that don’t have food, to enjoy the simple things in life.  Whether you own a business or you work for one, you can start collecting canned goods in order to provide for Dare to Care.

Click here for the Food Drive Form.

It is very easy to get started.  Just fill out the form, they deliver your boxes. You send out emails and notices to all your friends and family for them to start bringing in canned goods.  Upon the completion of your food drive and the thousands of cans you collected, Dare to Care will pick up the boxes.  Now you can sleep restfully and be happy to know that you helped thousands of kids have a great Thanksgiving feast.  If you wish to be more of a help, there are a lot of options on their website, as well.

The reality is, whether you’ve done it before or not, giving is so much better than receiving.  The more you receive, the more you want.  It’s a lost soul approach.  But the more you give the more you appreciate and enjoy life.  Think of the fulfillment you get watching your kids open up presents.  You will be enabling other parents to have that joy in life by simply watching their kids have a great Thanksgiving Day meal.  I am personally challenging everyone to donate at least 3 food items before Thanksgiving.

If you don’t know where to go to do so, come see us at ProFormance Fitness 2041 River Rd.  You can drop your donations off at our location during office hours.

The ProFormance Dare to Care food drive is from Tuesday, November 1st until Monday, November 21st.  We will have collection boxes placed around the gym to collect non-perishable food items.  If you bring in 3 items, we will enter you into a drawing to win a $100 ProFormance Gift Card! Also Saturday, November 19th will be Bring a Friend Day for Boot Camp 8am and Zumba 10am. Anyone may attend class this day that brings along a donation for Dare to Care.  Come join us in our goal to raise 1000 items!

I was born and raised in Louisville along with my four sisters. I graduated from St. X in 98’and University of Louisville in 02’. I have two amazing kids that are much sweeter to life than I ever was.
Although, I didn’t really know what all went into it, I dreamed of owning a gym and knew that I wanted to help people out. I consider myself very lucky to be able to take advantage of the opportunities that have existed in my life. I received a degree in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Marketing at UL, both of which were very helpful in getting me where I am today.
I have 10 years experience as a Personal Trainer. I have nationally accredited certifications through NSCA-CSCS and ACE. In 2003 I met Cary Cox and he already had the same visions that I did. We didn’t want people sitting around reading magazines on machines. Our past experience from the big box gyms helped us realize we wanted something different. We were looking for real results in a private atmosphere where intimidation doesn’t exist. ProFormance Fitness has grown from the original facility three times. The latest addition added another 5000 sq/ft to keep up with demand. We are fortunate to have amazing trainers and lots of energetic clients.
