The Louisville Sports Commission held its annual breakfast on Dec. 7 at the Spirit Room inside the KFC Yum! Center.
John Asher, vice president of communications at Churchill Downs, emceed the occasion. Karl Schmitt, executive director of the Louisville Sports Commission, discussed highlights of the organization’s activities in 2012 and unveiled details regarding several events scheduled for 2013, including the UCI Cyclocross World Championships.
Anne Kordes, UofL head volleyball coach, provided an overview of the upcoming NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball National Championships, held at the KFC Yum! Center on Dec. 13 and 15.
Finalists for the Paul Hornung Award, presented to the most versatile college football player, were also announced. Dri Archer of Kent State, Antonio Andrews of Western Kentucky, Tavon Austin of West Virginia and Marqise Lee of Southern California are the four young men in contention for the honor. The winner will be announced on Jan. 8.
