Kosair Trust For Life Cookout
In 1992, the Kentucky Association of Circuit Court Clerks created a public outreach program that involved asking every person obtaining a license or state ID to donate $1 to promote organ donation. Those dollars go into a trust – the Trust For Life. Twenty years later, the Circuit Clerks have raised more than $7 million for organ donation awareness, and 36 percent of Kentucky residents are now registered organ donors.
The Clerks celebrated this accomplishment on Oct. 7 with a cookout at Kosair Charities Center. The free and casual event included remarks by Kentucky Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes and comedian John Richardson, who is also a kidney patient. The new Kentucky driver’s license and new organ donor icon were also unveiled at the event.
