The Wednesday Lunch Club held its annual cruise on the Ohio River. The boat, The Princess, which normally maintains dock at Captain’s Quarters, took passengers on a cruise downriver to the downtown area.

The Doctors’ Ball
Awards for excellence in leadership, innovation and service within Kentuckiana’s medical practice were bestowed upon prominent individuals during the 2012 Doctors’ Ball, held Oct. 13 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown.
The 17th annual Doctors’ Ball featured an elegant dinner, dance and silent auction. The After Hours Lounge later opened with appetizers and desserts as well as specialty drinks provided by Heaven Hill Distilleries.
Proceeds benefited the Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s Foundation, which invests in outstanding patient care facilities and services, the education of health caregivers, advanced clinical research and improved access to quality medical care.

Homecoming On Main
Family and friends gathered at the KFC Yum! Center Plaza on Oct. 13 to celebrate the kick-off to the University of Louisville’s Homecoming.
The free event offered games, food, music, inflatables, face painting, a rock-climbing wall, vendor booths and a beer garden. Fan activities were also held, including a viewing of the UofL vs. Pittsbu
rgh football game on the outdoor Jumbotron. The traditional Red-White intrasquad men’s basketball scrimmage followed inside the KFC Yum! Center.

The Black Widow’s Ball
Dreams With Wings hosted the Black Widow’s Ball on Oct. 13 inside the Brown Hotel’s Bluegrass Room.
Angie Fenton of The Voice-Tribune emceed the event, which featured hor d’oeuvres, spirited cocktails, guests dressed in creative Halloween costumes and dancing to Gary Chism with C & J Entertainment.
A few lucky attendees walked away with prizes for the best “Thriller” dance or “Salsa Pair.” The overall winner of the costume contest received a one night stay at the Brown Hotel, complete with champagne breakfast.
Proceeds benefited Dreams With Wings, whose mission is to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism.

Friends and family joined Eunice Krish at her lovely home Oct. 6 to celebrate her “60 Years of Living.”

An Evening In The Courtyard
Jon Carloftis, Dale Fisher and Douglas Riddle hosted An Evening In The Courtyard Garden on Oct. 12 at Bittners.
The event featured a book signing for “Canal House Cooks Every Day,” a just-released cookbook by authors Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton, creators of the seasonal cookbook series “Canal House Cooking.” Samplings from the book were served during the evening.

Boots, Badges & Bids
One of Louisville’s premier charity events, Boots, Badges & Bids, was held Oct. 13 at the beautiful residence of Glenn Hogan.
The event featured food and drink, live and silent auctions, music and dancing.
Boots, Badges & Bids helps support the men and women of the Louisville Metro Police Department.

University of Louisville Tip-Off Luncheon
Coach Rick Pitino and the University of Louisville’s men’s basketball team provided an entertaining tip-off luncheon on Oct. 11 inside the Louisville Marriott Downtown Ballroom.
A sold-out crowd of more than 1,400 fans enjoyed highlight videos and the introduction of the 2012-13 roster.

Kosair Charities 2012 Dreams Take Flight Gala
Kosair Charities presented the 2012 Dreams Take Flight Gala on Oct. 13 at the Kentucky International Convention Center to honor a group of the region’s most esteemed members of the medical community and spotlight the work of numerous organizations Kosair Charities has supported.
Shriners, doctors, donors, grant recipients and Kosair kids gathered to celebrate grants made possible by the supporters of Kosair Charities. Event highlights included a cocktail reception, dinner, the Parade of Silent Messengers and the 2012 Roger Fox Award, given to John Joseph Buchino, M.D., and the 2012 Sam Swope Community Leadership Award, presented to George E. Fischer.
