Picnic Under The Trees
The Filson Historical Society presented its annual Picnic Under the Trees on Sept. 14.
Nervous Melvin and the Mistakes performed, while guests enjoyed a picnic surrounded by the charming atmosphere of Oxmoor Farm.
The Picnic Under the Trees is the third event in The Filson’s annual music series, which includes a Blues Night in the winter and a second musical event in the spring.

CFF Cocktail/Poolside Reception
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) held a poolside reception Sept. 13 at a board member’s home to host a national CFF representative, Peter Hodge, who is visiting Louisville to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis research.

The Great Kentucky Bourbon Tasting & Gala
The Guthrie Opportunity Center, Home of Nelson County Industries (NCI), held the Great Kentucky Bourbon Tasting & Gala, the signature event of the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, on Sept. 15.
Attendees began the evening by sampling the finest Kentucky Bourbons from eight distilleries and two brands, with a chance to meet Master Distillers and Ambassadors while gathering a collection of glassware in a Woodford Reserve tasting bag.
The black tie evening also included dancing, an official toast with 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Small Batch Bourbon, a gourmet Kentucky meal and a specialty dessert prepared with Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon.

Knight For A Princess
A party in royal fashion, KNight for a Princess, closed the memorable first day of viewing “Diana: A Celebration,” Sept. 15 at the Frazier History Museum.
Celebrity judges presided over a cheeky British-themed costume contest, and historical interpreters from the Frazier held exciting live sword fights in the tournament ring throughout the night. Every guest received a free signature drink, “Princess Punch,” at the fun-filled fete.

Pink Tie Ball
The Susan G. Komen Foundation hosted the Pink Tie Ball on Sept. 15 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown.
The event, themed “It’s getting hot this year,” included an elegant evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing. Seventy-five percent of the funds from the Pink Tie Ball will stay local and the remaining 25 percent will fund global research to help find a cure for breast cancer.

An Evening At Rockledge
A Metro United Way Tocqueville Society member appreciation event was hosted by Matt and Fran Thornton at their residence on Sept. 13.

Bark N’ Benefit
Little Eatz hosted the Bark N’ Benefit Sept. 15 at the River Bend Winery.
The upscale benefit held for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Saving Sunny featured a dinner, dessert and drink ticket, as well as a silent auction and live entertainment, including Cheyenne Marie Mize.

A Royal Evening Honoring Diana
An elegant black tie affair Sept. 14, titled, “A Royal Evening Honoring Diana,” offered those in attendance an exclusive preview of “Diana: A Celebration” inside the Frazier Museum. Posh, contemporary decor complemented a trio of live musical performances as guests mingled with art handlers, Nick Grossmark and Graeme Murton.
The evening of entertainment featured an open bar, delicious hors d’oeuvres and a three-course, plated dinner. For dessert, guests enjoyed their own personal miniature royal wedding cakes.

Friends Of James Beard Benefit Dinner
What happens when you ask 16 of the area’s most renowned chefs to – collectively – create a seven-course meal? Attendees of the Friends of James Beard Benefit Dinner found out firsthand at the elegant event, Sept. 14 at The Brown Hotel.
The dinner, sponsored by The Voice-Tribune and other businesses, celebrated the 25th anniversary of the James Beard Foundation, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to nurturing and preserving America’s diverse culinary heritage and future. Proceeds also benefited the scholarship fund for Sullivan University’s National Center for Hospitality Studies.

Moeller Vs. St. Xavier
Louisville’s St. Xavier Tigers faced off against Cincinnati’s Moeller in a spirited match Sept. 14 at St. X.
The visiting Crusaders claimed a 34-27 victory over host St. X, despite a ten-point gain in a final push by the Tigers in the fourth quarter.

Feast On Equality Cocktail Party
Dr. Brad Calobrace of Calobrace Plastic Surgery Center and a few friends hosted a party on Sept. 16 to inform guests about an upcoming fundraising dinner, Feast On Equality, held Nov. 16 at Mellwood Arts Center.
Four years ago, the University of Louisville’s Office for LGBT, and a few concerned community members, noticed there were a significant number of students who did not have a place to spend their Thanksgiving holiday, a time that can be especially challenging for those in the LGBT community. Thus, the first Alternative Thanksgiving event was created at UofL. To build on its success, Feast On Equality will be launched this year to provide much-needed financial resources to the Office for LGBT Services, while sending the message that our youth are important throughout the entire year.

Bullitt County Day Of Remembrance
To honor the victims of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, Bullitt County held a day of remembrance Sept. 9 in front of the 9-11 Memorial, next to the First Baptist Church parking lot.
A procession began on Highway 44 at Delaina Drive and ended on North Bardstown Road at the First Baptist Church. Those in attendance met heroes of 9/11, viewed a piece of the World Trade Center and the Army Static Equipment Display, visited the FOP Food Booth and explored the Mt. Washington Inflatable Bounce House and Safety House.
