Art In Speed Park

Speed Park was filled with more than 100 of the nation’s finest artisans, along with delectable food and the region’s top musical artists Aug. 25 and 26 during the 22nd annual Art in Speed Park event.

Art and music fans browsed the artists’ booths, enjoyed music played from the park’s pavilion and even tasted wine beneath the trees in the wine garden.

Ironman Louisville Presented by Norton Sports Health

Ironman Louisville

Nearly 3,000 men and women, representing 49 states and 25 countries, raced through above-90-degree temperatures in the sixth Ironman Louisville, which featured a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run.

Patrick Evoe of Texas won the overall competition with a time of 8 hours, 42 minutes, while Bree Wee of Hawaii crossed the finish line in 9 hours, 36 minutes to place first amongst the women. It was both Evoe and Wee’s first Ironman titles. Mike Hermanson of Louisville finished eighth overall.

Wildcat Kickoff Luncheon Presented By Central Bank

The Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club and Central Bank presented the Wildcat Kickoff Luncheon, Aug. 22 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. UK alumni and friends welcomed the leader of the Wildcat Football Program, Joker Phillips, at the event, which was sponsored by Welch Printing.

In addition to hearing Coach Phillips speak, those attending enjoyed a delicious meal and door prizes. James Clay Smith, President of Central Bank of Louisville, was presented with the All-American Award by the Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club.

The Underpants Run

Triathletes and fellow running enthusiasts paraded downtown in their underwear, and other unique costumes, on Aug. 25 near Waterfront Park.

The fourth annual event featured a “grueling” 1.5 mile run and benefited the KIDS Center for Pediatric Therapies.

Brew At The Zoo

The Louisville Zoo hosted its ninth annual Brew At The Zoo & Wine Too, featuring unique brews from dozens of local and regional breweries, along with a selection of locally-produced wines and scrumptious specialties from area restaurants.

Held Aug. 25 at the Louisville Zoo Oasis band shell, tent and field, the event also included a ’70s and ’80s-inspired performance by 100% Poly, cornhole and pub games, among other activities.

Wild, Wild West Bash

Hundreds of people headed to the home of local businessman Jay Mackin Aug. 25 for the Wild, Wild West Bash.

The fundraising party was held to benefit Indian Summer Camp for kids with cancer. Those attending dressed in western attire to get in the spirit of the night, which featured ice sculptures and even a hot air balloon!

Lincoln Foundation’s Evening Of Jazz

The Lincoln Foundation’s Evening of Jazz took place Aug. 24 at Churchill Downs.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer received Lincoln Foundation’s most prestigious honor, the Spirit of Excellence Award. Contemporary jazz recording artist Marcus Johnson, a Billboard-ranked keyboardist, headlined the evening. The Voice-Tribune’s Angie Fenton emceed.

Proceeds from the 17th annual event benefited the Whitney M. YOUNG Scholars Program, Lincoln Foundation’s signature educational program.

Big Ol’ Backyard BBQ

Louisvillians had the chance to chow down with four-star chefs Aug. 25 as they stepped out of their kitchens and fired up the grills at Home of the Innocents’ seventh annual Big Ol’ Backyard BBQ.

Chef Laurent Geroli hosted the popular event, which included a buffet of savory barbeque, gourmet side dishes and desserts galore. In addition to the food, guests enjoyed live music by The Remedy, hayrides, inflatables, cornhole games, face painting and more. The special fundraising event, sponsored by The Brown Hotel, Brown-Forman and JBS, was held to benefit the children at the Home of the Innocents.
