Louisville Catholic Sports Hall of Fame
The Louisville Catholic Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held Nov. 15 at the Kentucky Center.
- Will Wolford, who became an All-American in his senior year at Vanderbilt. He played for the Buffalo Bills, the Indianapolis Colts and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is currently the color analyst for the Indianapolis Colts.
- The son of the late Paulie Miller, who coached football, basketball and baseball at the old Flaget High School, accepted the induction award for his father.
- The brothers of the late Mike Silliman accepted the Hall of Fame award for their father. Mike played basketball for West Point, where he remains the greatest player in Army history. Following his army service, he played for the New York Knicks and the Buffalo Braves.
- The brother of the late Mike Silliman.
- The Hall of Fame group photo included John Paul Hornung, Will Wolford, Bobby Nichols, Bubba Paris, Mary T. Meagher Plant, Howard Schnellenberger, Marty O’Toole, Father Tom Gentile and family members of the late Mike Silliman, Bunny Daugherty, Karl Schmitt Sr., Gus Bell and Paulie Miller.
- Steve Fehder, owner of Louisville Catholic Sports Network, and Larry Link, owner of Bonnycastle Appliances.
- Sarah Conti, Steve Fehder and Dana Kleinman.
- Paul Varga, who was the speaker for the evening.
- Paul Hornung, who received the Heisman Trophy while playing for Notre Dame and went on to play for the Green Bay Packers.
- Nick Clark and his father, Don Clark, with Vince Cameron.
- Missy and Paul Varga with their children, Paul, Abby and Lauren.
- Mary T. Meagher Plant, who set world records in swimming. She won three gold medals in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. She retired with 24 U.S. national swimming titles.
- Mary Ann and Joe Koch with Harry Jones. Joe and Harry were star football players at the University of Kentucky.
- Marty O’Toole, an outstanding swimmer at St. Xavier from 1954 through 1957 and swim coach at St. X who developed 48 individual state champions and 40 relay teams that won state titles.
- Lynn and John Marshall. John is the son of the late Dr. Jim Marshall.
- John and Lori Key with Ann and Darrell Wells. John is the president of Commonwealth Bank & Trust. Ann is chairman and CEO of Commonwealth and Darrell is chairman of Citizens’ Security Life Insurance.
- John Link, Larry Link Sr. and Bill O’Connor.
- Jay Stengel and Bubba Paris, who played together on the DeSales High School football team.
- Howard Schnellenberger, who played at UK for coach “Bear” Bryant and Blanton Collier and earned All-American honors. He joined the Miami Dolphins as offensive coordinator, was head coach of the Baltimore Colts and revived the football programs at the University of Miami and the University of Louisville.
- Father Tom Gentile, chairman of the Catholic Schools Athletics Association since 1980.
- Cynthia and Bubba Paris. Bubba began a nine-year career with the San Francisco 49ers beginning in 1982, played 13 games for the Indianapolis Colts and retired with the Detroit Lions. The Parises live in Discovery Bay, Calif.
- Bobby Nichols. Bobby joined the PGA Tour in 1960 and won 11 championships, including the 1964 PGA Championship. Bobby lives in Fort Meyers, Fla.
- Bobby Nichols, Dave and Mary Jane Baron, Tommy Musselman and Nancy Nichols.
- Billy Reid presented a Hall of Fame induction trophy to Bobby Nichols.
- Billy Reed, who is executive editor of Louisville Catholic Sports Network, and Cissy Musselman.
- Barbara and Lee Hasenour.
- Barbara Nichols and Bill Hardy.
