The Bard’s Town Theatre presents “Things We Want”

Written by Jonathan Marc Sherman
Directed by J.P. Lebangood

Featuring Ryan Watson, April Singer, Scot Atkinson, and J.P. Lebangood.

In Things We Want, three adult brothers are living together once again in their childhood apartment, struggling to redefine themselves while pursuing their desires and coping with the void left by their parents’ deaths. Drastic shifts in their dynamics occur after an attractive young neighbor named Stella becomes a part of their lives. A sweet and sour look at the illusions we have about what makes us happy—and what is within our power to change.

“Prior to 2012, I was wholly unaware of this work,” says Executive Artistic Director Doug Schutte.  ”What a wonderfully happy accident to find it.  Fabulous dialogue, characters with grit, and a story with heart.  And that window…that ever-present window that pervades everything on stage.”

“a powerful and hilarious vision of a family that constantly  struggles to survive in a world that has not been kind to them.”  -Associated Press

“the highest cool quotient of any show in town” -New York Times

Jonathan Marc Sherman burst onto the New York theater scene as the teenage author of Women and Wallace, which was produced at Playwrights Horizons and then filmed for television with a cast that included Cynthia Nixon and Josh Hamilton. Jonathan’s plays have been performed for audiences nationally and internationally. Among his best-known plays are Things We Want, Serendipity and Serenity, Jesus on the Oil Tank (winner of the 21st Century Playwrights Award), Veins and Thumbtacks, Sophistry, Wonderful Time, Evolution and Knickerbocker. Jonathan’s latest work, Clive, recently opened at The New Group in NY.

As with all Bard’s Town Theatre shows, drink service  will be  available during the show, and audience members can dine at the Bard’s Town Restaurant prior to or after the theatre show.

Press photos are available upon request (we try not to clutter email inboxes).

The Bard’s  Town Theatre is a 501c3 nonprofit theatre whose  mission is to nurture, develop, and produce new work, providing an  outlet for new  voices and performing plays that have yet to be seen in Louisville.  The Bard’s Town Theatre puts particular emphasis on producing  new works by Kentucky playwrights, serving as a platform for these  voices to be heard.
