Lenten Recital and Luncheon Series
Calvary Episcopal Church, 821 S. Fourth St., is hosting the 2013 Lenten Recital and Luncheon Series in honor of Margaret and Melvin Dickinson, Musicians Emeriti. The series will run for five successive Wednesdays, beginning Feb. 20 and ending March 20. The featured artist on Feb. 20 will be Margaret Dickinson, organist. Ms. Dickinson was director of music and outreach at Calvary Episcopal Church from 1964 to 2012. On Feb. 27, the program will feature Traditional Negro Spirituals performed by Black Classical Artists of Louisville Phillip Morgan, baritone, of Central Presbyterian Church; and Dr. Alexander T. Simpson Jr., accompanist, of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Dr. Simpson is also an associate professor of music at Bellarmine University). This program will take place in Parker Hall. On March 6, Louisville Mandolin Orchestra, conducted by Robert Elkins, will travel from St. John’s Episcopal Church in Versailles, Ky., to perform. On March 13, the program will feature duets by David and Sharon Brown of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and Alexander and Mary Redden of Calvary Episcopal Church, accompanied by Dr. Louie Bailey of Crescent Hill Baptist Church. This program will take place upstairs in the Bingham Choir Loft. On March 20, Timothy Baker, organist from Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church, will perform. All programs will begin at noon. A free-will offering for each recital and luncheon will go to Calvary’s Outreach Program to feed the hungry and clothe the poor.
