ITALIAN GARDEN DESIGN IN AMERICA
Join the Jefferson County Master Gardener Association at Whitehall, 3110 Lexington Road, for an exploration of Italian garden design in America, April 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. Art Historian Dr. Cristina Carbone will identify design elements often attributed to English gardens that actually have their most developed manifestation in Italy. These gardens were closely studied by America’s Gilded Age leisure class while making The Grand Tour of Europe. Perhaps the most well known of the garden-travel writers of the era was Edith Wharton. Her ideas found expression in the gardens of Whitehall which will be toured at the conclusion of Dr. Carbone’s presentation. Tea and refreshments, reminiscent of the era, will be served. There is a $30 fee and reservations are required by calling 502.439.2962 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. For information visit www.jcmgaky.org.
