Free Marathon and Mini-marathon training at Fleet Feet.

Derby Marathon and mini-marathon participants who are using the races as an opportunity to raise funds for the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, an official charity of the annual Kentucky Derby Festival races, can participate in a free training program offered in conjunction with Fleet Feet Sports of Louisville.

Runners and walkers meet every Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 8 a.m., at Fleet Feet at 2239 Taylorsville Road, where they break up into groups based on their pace. Coaching the Alzheimer’s Association team is marathoner Barry Esslinger, along with Fleet Feet staff.

The training program is free, although Fleet Feet also offers a more advanced training program for $75.  Marathon and mini-marathon participants do NOT need to reserve a space for the Alzheimer’s training program; however, participants who would like to help raise funds for the Association can register at www.active.com/donate/alzkyin.
