The "squeeky wheel gets the oil". I've heard that saying my whole life. And I believe that the residents of the West End have been SCREAMING for help for a long time. I just hope that we (as a whole community) will continue to rally and come to the aid of the West End: not just that quick band-aid kind of help, but the actual longterm T.L.C. and commitment that a person or community needs for a real change to take root and thrive. If there is any way for the local media to get information out when communty activities and "helps" programs are scheduled - not AFTER the fact, so more people can respond to either provide help, or just attend to offer moral support would be really awesome! We are out here,we want to help; but we have to know the "when" and "wheres".

Really good, candid article, Ms. Fenton. thanks for writing and publishing it. Can't attend on June 16, but hope the event brings good energy to a community that needs some positive things to happen.
One of the best inititatives I heard about recently is that several lawn service type companies are volunteering to help clean up vacant lots and neighborhood common areas. I think that's a great idea - when things look good, people feel better. This is the kind of thing I hope the task forces will publicize, assist and continue. Gets people working together, and doesn't take alot of money. Just time and effort.
Success and change will follow - slowly - but they will follow.

This is a very open airing of what are very private feelings that we can all benefit from reading.
Thank you. I think one huge glaring issue is that there ARE things happening to be of help to these young men, in particular. However, NO ONE in the media really seems interested in highlighting them or promoting them.
What if someone like yourself would feature a program that is making a difference over a series of articles?
As I am involved in one of those programs, I can tell you there is good going on but we need help. We need support. ALl these task forces and committees and so on are great but what about what's already happening that is helpful ? It's not more helpful because we in the trenches have little support. We have to beg and borrow, often at great financial hardship ourselves, to keep things going. This article is a good start.
Use your platform to shine a light on what's working, too. Help us! COntact me at this email and I will point you in some directions.
