Kent Carmichael, Griffin VanMeter and Whit Hiler think Kentucky is a kick-butt state – and they’re hoping you’ll agree.

The three founders of Kentucky for Kentucky have launched a project on www.Kickstarter.com to do the seemingly impossible: fund, produce and air a Super Bowl commercial marketing the Bluegrass State.

According to the fellas, this is “a project fueled by Kentucky pride showcasing to the world all of the amazing people, cultural influences, destinations and products that make Kentucky the greatest state ever.”

LogoPlus, pulling this off would make history.

“Never before has there ever been a crowd-funded Super Bowl ad. It’s never even been attempted. If we can get all of Kentucky to rally behind this project, pledge what they can, and support this crazy idea,” Whit said, “Kentucky will make history – just like we did when we first slapped high-fives, when we first fried chicken, when we first sung happy birthday, when we invented the cheeseburger and when we invented the freaking Kentucky Derby. Kentucky and it’s Kentuckians will be making history. This project is so much more than just a Super Bowl commercial. It will be huge for Kentucky.”

The idea sounds amazing for sure, and the “only thing stopping us is George Clooney saying yes, that and a couple of million,” Kent said. “We know it’s crazy. But we also know it can be done.”

For the record, Griffin said they’re “still waiting to hear back from Diane Sawyer’s people,” too.

“We’re still waiting for one of Kentucky’s great brands to jump on board, sponsor this epic project and make history along with Kentucky,” Whit said.

Cupcakes for KIDS

Still on the fence about going to Breeders’ Cup? Call me. I’ll give you more reasons to attend than you could possibly desire – but I’ll provide the tastiest one right here.

Forget that the two-day event showcases world-class horse racing right in our backyard at Churchill Downs.

And never mind that people come from all over the world – literally – to attend.

If you’re looking for a reason to support Breeders’ Cup 2011, look no further than the event’s official confection, a creation concocted as yet another way to benefit the local community.

The Breeders’ Cupcake, as it’s called, is a delicious dessert made exclusively by Cake Flour, a Louisville-based natural and organic bakery located at 909 E. Market St., Suite 100. The goodies come in two varieties: a chocolate cupcake with strawberry cranberry Grey Goose vodka infused buttercream frosting and a chocolate cupcake with orange zest Grey Goose vodka infused buttercream. You can also order the treats alcohol-free.

But what’s the sweetest part about the Breeders’ Cupcake? Proceeds from each cupcake benefit the KIDS Center, a nonprofit that has been helping children see the “ability” in disability since 1959.

Angie is owned by two dogs — Herbie and Yoda — and feels lucky to have loved and been loved by many more, including Pooch, Jessie, Onyx, Jack and Big Bud, who took his last breath on Christmas Day 2012.
