Sweet Siriano

“Project Runway” dynamo Christian Siriano proved he’s far more than a reality TV winner last weekend. The incredibly talented fashion designer came to town for Runway & Rescue, a benefit for the Shelby County Humane Society, presented by Glasscock.

During a Friday night VIP trunk show at The Henry Clay, Christian went to great lengths to converse with attendees and make them feel special, whether they purchased his clothes or not.

Later that evening, a small group of us had dinner with Christian at Eddie Merlot’s. As Todd Calvert remarked about our special guest, “He’s just so nice!”

On Saturday – after what I’m told was a lovely stay at 21c – Christian and his crew returned to The Henry Clay for a public meet ‘n’ greet and trunk show. Then, he spent the latter part of the early evening working with the evening’s fashion show producer Sug Schusterman and the gorgeous gals of Heyman Talent and several notable (and just as beautiful) local women.

I spoke with Christian several times throughout the weekend, which ended Sunday after brunch at North End Café and a visit to the Kentucky Derby Museum. Each time we conversed, I was even more enamored. He’s not only incredibly creative and passionate, but he’s also the real deal.

Here’s hoping Christian comes back soon.

Derby Dish

Matt Battaglia told The Voice his friends at Vanity Fair magazine have stepped up to help The Mint Jubilee land Longines Premium Watch Company as a major sponsor for the May 6 Oaks Night event.

Matt – along with brothers Chris Thienemanand Tom “Tommy” Thieneman Jr. – founded the Mint Jubilee after his mother, Nancy Van Cleve Battaglia, lost her fight with lung cancer.
