A Week in Photos

Mission: Assumption

AssumptionAssumption High School hosted its annual Mission Week Monday, Feb. 28 through Friday, March 4. While a number of the school’s seniors take off the week to take part in mission service trips all over the region and even in Jamaica, all of the students participate in a week-long learning experience both inside and outside of Assumption. I’m grateful and humbled to have played a small part by speaking to the freshman class and just wanted the young ladies to know how inspired I was – and am – by them.

Third Thursday

Join The Voice-Tribune for our monthly Eat “¢ Play “¢ Live Third Thursday After-Work Party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 17 at Majid’s, 3930 Chenoweth Square. Last week, I’d wrongly stated that March’s party would be at,  Jack’s Lounge. It will be one day soon, promises Chef Dean Corbett, just not this time around. By the way, Chef Corbett and his team will offer patrons a special four-course dinner menu at Equus and Jack’s on St. Patrick’s Day. Call (502) 897-9721 for more information. Eat “¢ Play “¢ Live with The Voice and then dine with Chef Deano? Sounds like a perfect St. Patty’s Day to me.

Pancakes and Sweets

Waking up at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4 to help out as a guest server at IHOP was more than worth it. The restaurant, located at 1401 S. Hurstbourne Lane, was celebrating National Pancake Day by offering up free short stacks of the cakes and taking donations for the Children’s Miracle Network. Locally, that money went to Kosair Children’s Hospital. FOX41′s Keith Kaiser got in on the action. So did Terry Meiners, who met his biggest little fan, Dawson Barr. The 5-year-old has been battling brain cancer for all but six months of his life, but that hasn’t stopped him one bit. You can see a sweet video of Dawson talking about how much he loves Terry – and WAVE 3 Chief Meteorologist Kevin Harned too – on my Facebook page.

Cover Gals

Thank you to the many women who took the time to take part in this week’s cover story. Everyone was so accommodating, including Wave 3 News Anchor Dawne Gee (pictured here with WAVE 3 Production Director/Producer Curtis Tate). Dawne,  was kind enough to let me pop in last Monday to interview her at the station mere minutes before she and Scott Reynolds did the 1 p.m. news.
