I’m not sure I’ve ever made a New Year’s resolution and kept it, and I can only count on two hands the number of people I know who have. That’s why I’m done making promises of change to myself on the first of the next 365 days. Instead, I’m trying something new: I made a resolution the day after Thanksgiving in a pact with three other women to commit to training for a bodybuilding contest. Thus far, we’ve all gotten a tiny bit closer to our goal, and we’re still several weeks away from 2013.
There’s safety in numbers. There’s accountability, too.
On April 27, 2013, WHAS11’s Brooke Katz and Chelsea Rabideau, The Voice-Tribune Staff Writer Ashley Anderson and I will compete in the Kentucky Derby Festival Bodybuilding Championships. For the next few months, we’ll lift heavy, do cardio and interval training and eat right, collectively and separately. Unlike stereotypical bodybuilders, we will train to compete in various divisions that favor muscularity and femininity, grace and strength and the only way to achieve that is through proper training, good nutrition and sleep.
We’re going to have some fun doing it, too.
Stay tuned for updates.
